On Wednesday, Rooney told news that he was “disappointed with Monday night’s result but looking forward to the first game at Old Trafford on Saturday”. Wayne Rooney's Dad Wayne Rooney Sr. and Uncle Richie Rooney Arrested

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Wayne Rooney’s dad, Wayne Rooney Sr., and his uncle, Richie Rooney, have been arrested by police. Soccer sensation Wayne Rooney Jr. (Manchester United) has yet to comment about the news. The matter concerns an alleged soccer betting scam.

Wayne Rooney Sr. and Richie Rooney were among the nine persons detained in the early morning hours today. Police confirm to news that the matter is the results of nearly a year long investigation. Wayne Rooney, Sr., 48, and Richie Rooney, 54, were brought in by Merseyside and Glasgow. All nine person were arrested this morning. A statement SFA chief executive Stewart Regan confirms to news that the matter followed an eight month investigation.

Merseyside Police issued the following statement today: “Detectives have today executed warrants at 10 addresses across Merseyside and Glasgow and arrested nine men as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity.”

Of the persons arrested today, their ages ranged from 26 to 68. “The investigation relates to a match between Motherwell and Hearts on December 14 2010″ said the Merseyside Police news statement.

“While the investigation involves several other individuals outside Scotland, it is important to stress that the evidence gathered throughout this thorough period of investigation has involved only one Scottish match” Regan said in a news statement. “Motherwell FC are aware of the situation and will issue a response in due course. The Scottish FA will make no further comment at this stage.”

Recently, Rooney said that he wants Man United to win this season. It remains unclear to what extent today’s developments will distract his play on the field. “When you’re at a club like Manchester United you pretty much know what the goals are. We want to win the Premier League, the Champions League and both the domestic cup competitions.” He added “Obviously, sometimes you fall short of that, but at United you’ve got to keep striving for it.” In August, Rooney delivered a hat trick to help Man United win against Arsenal.

In 2005, Richie Rooney ran the Croxteth Amateur Boxing Club. When interviewed by Guardian that year, Richie said Wayne Jr. had boxed but never competed. “He was very good. He’s a strong lad, Wayne. But Everton told his mother and father that they didn’t want him to box, just to concentrate on his football.”

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez Injuries Plague Man United

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Manchester United injuries are growing with Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez “Chicharito” joining the list. But Sir Alex Ferguson tells news and fans that these injuries are not serious. Wayne Rooney has a hamstring injury. Chicharito was injured during Saturday’s match (video below).

Ferguson wouldn’t give a timeline for any player today. But he says Rooney definitely won’t be out for more than a week. “It’s difficult to say [how long Rooney will be out for]. It’s not a serious hamstring injury but I don’t think he’ll be available for next week. I think he’ll be out for more than a week.”

Ferguson was unhappy to face off against Stoke with so many injured players and leave with more. By Sunday, the injured list included Carrick, Evans and Hernandez along with Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling, Rafael, Tom Cleverley and Darron Gibson. Rio Ferdinand and Danny Welbeck returned to action Saturday. Jonny Evans was injured in training this week and Javier against Stoke.

Javier was injured after a tackle Saturday by Jonathan Woodgate. Ferguson said of Hernandez’s injury “It is not easy. With Hernandez he gives you that penetration and speed. That was a loss. Jonny got an ankle injury in training. We had a nightmare of a training session on Friday – Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney, Jonny Evans.” He added “Jonny thought he would be okay but in the warm-up it was no use. We had to make that change.”

Bolton vs. Manchester United 2011: Wayne Rooney Hopes for Chicharito Starting

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – When Bolton vs Manchester United 2011 kicks off this Saturday, Wayne Rooney is anxious for one outcome, besides winning. Rooney is hoping that Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) starts Saturday, or at least gets to share time on the field with him against Bolton. Fans of Chicharito have called him one of the most enduring personalities of soccer today. But in a news interview today, Rooney gives nothing but stunning praise for Hernandez.

Chicharito suffered a concussion during Man United’s U.S. Tour. And while Chicharito is back in pure form, his starting position isn’t. Chicharito most recently scored against Poland; now he’s hoping to start for Man United once again, against Bolton (en vivo 9:30 am PST).

For months, LALATE has detailed how Chicharito’s work ethic is unlike other players. Now Rooney today opens up more about that immense drive. “Me and him do a lot of finishing after sessions to try and keep progressing and getting better.”

On a personal level, Rooney says he’s one of the kindest and humblest players he has ever seen. But on a professional level, Rooney says that Chicharito has immense speed that makes defending him next to impossible.

In an interview with MUTV, Rooney says “I’m sure people will know a bit more about him this year but his movement is so good it’s difficult to defend against.” Rooney explains that some players suffer a second season slump after other teams learn your style. But Rooney doesn’t anticipate that for Javier. “It won’t be easy for players to defend against him whether they know about him or not.”
