Chicago Train Derailment, 47th and Archer, Interrupts Heritage Corridor Line

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – A freight train derailment at 47th and Archer created traffic delays and interrupted service on the Heritage Corridor line through Chicago today. No injuries have been reported by local news. Heritage Corridor line service is currently back on schedule after an early morning derailment.
Local news reports that a freight train derailment occurred today around 6:35 am. The derailment at 47th and Archer resulted in traffic on Archer being closed in both directions initially.
Reports indicate the derailment involved three to four cars. One car was marked “J.B. Hunt”. Fire officials confirm to news that the train was carrying office supplies and paper.
Train Number 914, Joliet-to-Chicago, was halted initially after being blocked by the derailment. Train service was restored 37 minutes later.
CTA had re-routed the No. 62 Archer buses. Fox Chicago reports “Many CTA buses were rerouted due to the closings”. NBC Chicago reports that travels to “Midway .. [are] urged to avoid Archer Avenue and take the Stevenson Expressway instead.”
