LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – CCTV China allegedly used “Top Gun” footage (video below) in a news broadcast about its own military but omitted a Tom Cruise clip. CCTV China is flying to new depths after the broadcaster allegedly used film footage from “Top Gun” (without credit) to depict its own national military.

The footage was not set to air in a movie theatre. Rather the national news coverage was about the People’s Liberation Army’s Air Force. Instead of Tom Cruise’s jet, it was a J-10 fighter jet. The film footage used depicted a J-10 firing a missile and then a jet exploding. As the WSJ reports, ironically “it doesn’t leave in the next scene where Tom Cruise celebrates.”

Reports claim that CCTV has deleted the video from its online site and no longer rebroadcasted the material. But CCTV China has allegedly yet to issue an apology to viewers that they were watching a Hollywood movie, not news footage.

Tom Gun was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer in 1986 for Paramount Pictures for $15 million. To date, the film has reportedly earned approximately $354 million in worldwide sales.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Tom Cruise’ Knight and Day was a boxoffice flop this weekend. Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day was his worse action film weekend boxoffice opening weekend in two decades.

The highly advertised action film failed to finish first this weekend, ending up third behind a comedy and an animation film. Toy Story 3 continued its success with a first place finish at $59 million. Its two week total now stands at an enormous $227 million. Adam Sander & Co impressed. His opener of “Grown Ups” amid great reviews for Sandler and co-stars – Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider – pulled $41 million.

Cruise opened third with a meek $21 million.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Here is video of Tom Cruise dancing with Jennifer Lopez from the MTV Movie Awards 2010. J Lo dances with Tom Cruise (who remains in character as Tropic Thunder’s Les Grossman).

Cruise had been promoting tonight’s show with a series of ad spots as Grossman. So his appearance on stage tonight for this opening was no surprise. But partially through this opening, the music changes to a familiar tune; then, as the camera pulls back, a familiar body appears in frame. It’s suddenly Jennifer Lopez (from her classic J-Lo years) dancing with Grossman, err, Cruise.

Did Tom Cruise die? No, Tom Cruise is not dead. Tom Cruise death reports swirling are false.

Tom Cruise was also not dead on November 11 2009 when the same such fake death reports first hit the web. In 2009, Tom Cruise false death stories claim Cruise had died of a heart attack. Just days later, Cruise friend Will Smith got his own round of fake death reports. For Smith it was a madeup car crash.

In fact, Cruise’s entry into the false celebrity death reports in November 2009 was a change at the time.
