Boot Brokaw!

Posted on October 5th, 2008 in Debate, Tom Brokaw by lalate

Boot Brokaw

“Boot Brokaw” is a petition drive to “Boot Brokaw as Debate Moderator” for the second Obama McCain Debate. A group wants to “boot” Tom Brokaw off as moderator of the Presidential debate Tuesday. The group is Citizens for an Informed Electorate and Fair Political Process.

“We call on the Commission on Presidential Debates to remove moderator Tom Brokaw from the second McCain-Obama forum, and replace him with either Bill Moyers or Charlie Rose. We feel the Pro GOP, McCain/Palin, and Iraq War positions exhibited by the former NBC anchorman during his hosting of Meet The Press taints the political process of this Town Hall style program.”

“Thanks to all who took the time to sign the petition to Boot Brokaw from the Moderator chair at the McCain/Obama Presidential Debate in Nashville next week. We more than doubled our goal - getting 2,100 signatures! We will now deliver the petition and your signatures and comments to the Commission on Presidential Debates.

“Honestly, we do not expect the CPD to replace the legendary anchorman, but we will send a message - that will, hopefully, lead to pressure on Brokaw to be more fair than he might have been during the debate. We also plan to forward a copy of the petition and signatures to NBC News, with demands the network respond - to choose a permanent host on Meet The Press who will be more fair and not show the bias as Brokaw has exhibited during his tenure on the program after the death of Tim Russert.”

How many signatures so far? 2,000 as of Sunday.

Meet the Press Remembers Tim Russert VIDEO

Posted on June 15th, 2008 in Maria Shriver, Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert by lalate

Tim Russert

NEW VIDEO: Watch a special episode of “Meet the Press” remembering Tim Russert. Tom Brokaw and guests including Mariah Shriver remembered the amazing Tim Russert. The “Meet the Press” episode opened with Tim Russert’s chair empty in an empty set. The camera then spread to reveal Tom Brokaw as host with guests Mike Barnicle, James Carville, Betsy Fischer, Gwen Ifill, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Mary Matalin and, by satellite, Maria Shriver.
“Tim has a very large wooden sign in his office,” said a clearly emotional Brokaw, “and it’s going to be our mantra for this morning. It says ‘Thou Shall Not Whine.’ And if I can add I think anything to that, ‘Thou shall not weep or cry this morning.’ This is a celebration, a time to remember.”

James Carville said the worse mistake was to come on Russert’s show unprepared. Carville’s wife said “This is where you separated the men from the boys. You weren’t a candidate until you came on this show … You came here, that meant you had something to say.”

Brokaw said Russert was brilliant at seeking to move the news cycle “He wanted to land on the front page of the newspaper the next morning,” said Brokaw. “That was one of the tests that he had here. Meet the Press was successful if they drove the news cycle.”

The episode sadly aired today, on Fathers day. “The question I’m most often asked about Tim is, ‘Is he really as good a guy as he looks like?’ ” said Carville. “And the truth is, he was a better guy”
