Did MTV set up Britney Spears to fail? MTV says no. But was Spears’ look sabotaged just minutes before going on stage at the VMA? One source says yes, bigtime! 

MTV is denying reports it set up Spears to fail just for ratings. “Britney Spears has had so many memorable, high-energy performances at the VMAs over the years and no one wanted to see her succeed more than her MTV fans and MTV,” the network says.

However, one report indicates her look was sabotaged by her own people minutes before going on stage. Reports are circulating that one of her camp destroyed her look just before going on stage and that’s why she looked as awful as she did, and hence perhaps so nervous.

Celebrity gossip columninst Marc Malkin has confirmed that a nasty spat between a frozen margarita drinking Brit and her longtime stylist resulted in the hair guru destroying Britney’s hair extensions before taking the stage! Holy Vidal Sasoon, say it’s not true!According to Marc:An insider tells me that shortly before Spears was to go onstage at the Palms Hotel & Casino’s Pearl Theater, she had some sort of disagreement with her hairstylist.And, I’m told, said hair guru quit on the spot. But before leaving, my source reports, the disgruntled stylist cut up all of the extensions Spears was planning on wearing for her big number.

But the big question is …. did he cut up her underwear too? Sorry, couldn’t avoid that one.

If you don’t know, often performances like Britney’s at award shows can be staged by the show (MTV), or the singer’s label (JIVE), or in conjuction. We don’t know who staged her performance. The whole act, irrespective of Britney, was awful. It was cheap. It was slow. It didn’t make sense. And it’s not Britney’s fault because she didn’t design it.

Was she good? No she was awful. If she was given bad moves by MTV, don’t hate her, but dislike her for agreeing to do a horrible production, whoever created it, and wasting your television viewing time.

Finally, her body. Give the girl a break and a stylist. She made the mistake of showing skin when she really wasn’t in shape. Enough sad.

Our thoughts: we love her, she knows she bombed, but you have to feel sorry for her not to have anyone around her telling her the obvious ahead of time.

Out of shape, out of touch, Britney Spears opened the worse MTV Awards Show ever, an atrocious disaster show inspired by Timbaland that served as a big infomercial for the Palms Hotel. If this is the music business, no wonder albums aren’t selling; they don’t have a clue what they are doing!

It seemed the MTV show felt like it had a contract clause with the Palms that said “one long pan shot of Palms sign required every 39 seconds”. The show repeatedly had performers “perform”, if you can call that, by singing while walking up and down a flight of stars while angry men shouted like extras of the Orsenio Hall show and planted hoochie mamas wiggled their behinds.

The show felt like you were in an underground nightclub filled with angry people. It didn’t feel like Vegas or an award show. In fact, it just felt like a waste of programming time.

Las Vegas, NV, September 6, 2007 – After weeks of mind-blowing media speculation, MTV confirms today that Britney Spears will be opening the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Celebrating her long awaited comeback to her fans, Spears will be performing LIVE her new song “Gimme More” from her highly anticipated new album due on November 13th. The star studded awards show will air live Sunday, September 9th at 9PM Live ET/Tape delayed PT.

Immediately following Spears’ performance, fans who want more of the superstar can download two ringtones available exclusively through MTV Mobile for two days prior to any other service. The tones — one for “Gimme More” and the other featuring the much discussed “It’s Britney, B****” catch phrase from “Gimme More’s” intro — are available for fans who text “Gimme” or “Brit” to 33633. MTV Mobile also will carry a live simulcast of the show, a first ever for an awards show.

BREAKING NEWS! Did Kim Kardashian get BOO’ed out of Las Vegas’ biggest Wednesday night club this week?! Could this mean popularity trouble for her upcoming Las Vegas’ show?

If Las Vegas Confidential’s report is correct, Kimmy K got a dreadful response from the crowd at Tangerine Nightclub Wednesday.

Tangerine, located inside Treasure Island Hotel, is Las Vegas’ top Wednesday spot for years (and always with lalate!). But its crowd didn’t want Kimmy K this last week according to reports!

Apparently she received a “smattering of boos and little applause from the crowd when the deejay announced Kardashian as one of the hosts of the evening’s party — a launch of fashion model Caroline D’Amore’s clothing line, D’Amore by Marceau”.

“Later in the evening — following Kardashian’s departure from Tangerine — members of her group that stayed were removed from the nightclub after a woman in the party became disrespectful toward one of the nightclub’s VIP hosts. Tangerine’s staff didn’t appreciate the situation and quickly rectified the problem by removing the rowdy group from the nightclub, sources told Vegas Confidential.”

Could this mean trouble for Kim’s popularity in an upcoming Vegas show?

lalate news was the first to break that Kardashian will appear this September as a Pussycat Doll in the Las Vegas show inside Pure Nightclub. She will hope that this crowd from Treasure Island down the street doesn’t come to Pure also.
