LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jim Nabors and Stan Cadwallader married in 2012. Nabors began dating began dating Stan Cadwallader (photos below) in 1975. Three years earlier, Jim Nabors started as the opening act of the Indy 500. Now after 42 years of doing the race, Nabors says he is retiring from the Indy 500 to spend time at home with Stan.
Jim Nabors, after a 42 year run, will retire from doing the Indy 500 opening act this Sunday. In 1972, officials approached Jim Nabors to be the Indianapolis 500 opening act. Now officials confirm that the last Jim Nabors Indy 500 opening act will be this Sunday May 25, 2014 at 5 am local time.
Jim Nabors has battled fake death reports, fake car crash stories, and decades of performances. But now after more than two hundred films, Nabors tells news that he is happy just staying at home in Hawaii with husband Stan Cadwallader. In January 2013, LALATE reported that Jim Nabors quietly married Stan Cadwallader in December 2012. Jim Nabors and Stan Cadwallader were married in December 2012 at a private ceremony at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. The marriage ceremony was reportedly conducted inside a hotel room with just a few friends present from Diamond Head.
The couple met in 1975, three years after Nabors began singing the Indy 500 opening. At the time, Cadwallader was a Honolulu firefighter. Over the next few years, Cadwallader began working for Nabors and eventually started dating the singer.
Nabors in 2013 said that he never kept his social life a mystery from those around him. But he said that he had no intentions, then nor now, to become involved in the gay marriage debate. Nabors admitted that, while friends knew of his relationship for decades, he only first commented it on extensively in spring of 2013. He didn’t find it necessary. “I haven’t ever made a public spectacle of it. Well, I’ve known since I was a child, so, come on. It’s not that kind of a thing. I’ve never made a huge secret of it at all.” Nabors also added “This is really no big deal. My friend and I, my partner, we went through all of this 38 years ago.”
Nabors admits to KITV that he was found by Andy Griffith inside a Santa Monica nightclub. But now at 84, he is set to retire from the Indy 500. But Nabors doesn’t indicate that he is retiring from everything in life. KITV, shockingly spelling Nabors’ last name as “Neighbors”, quotes the singer as stating this week “It’s really remarkable thing for me. It’s the highlight of my year because it’s 500,000 of my closest friends and they do make me feel like I’m their best friend.”
