LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Robocop 2013 remake is prompting Toronto production anticipation. Producers on the Robocop remake confirm to news that the film will head to Toronto for principal photography this September. The revelation comes as new details about the cast have been released to news.
Gary Oldman, and Samuel L. Jackson are reportedly set to join the cast. Abbie Cornish will reportedly is set to play the wife of Robocop. Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha has previously told news that he will bring an updated vision to the character’s background. But what will be that vision?
“How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot?” He tells news. “I have my take on it. And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts.”
Among the other issues Padilha hopes to address are “How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot?” He wishes to tackle “ How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?â€
Padilha won the 2008 Golden Bear for Elite Squad. Jackson will play Pat Novak. Joel Kinnaman will fill the title role previously played by Peter Weller in 1987. Padilha hopes to deliver the film to movie theatres next year.
Kinnaman recently told Collider the following about the film. “José has a completely different take on this than Verhoeven had, and with all respect, everybody that’s involved in this movie loved the original and we have a lot of respect for it. We’re going to have a lot of throwbacks and there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff for the fans of the first movie. It’s a new story within the old one.”
