LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Samantha Geimer aka Samantha Gailey (photos below) will release a book about the Roman Polanski scandal. Samantha Geimer repeatedly denounced efforts by Roman Polanski prosecutors in 2009 to reopen his case. As reported extensively on LALATE over the last three years, Samantha Geimer told a judge that she was becoming victim, a second time, for the attempt to revisit the 1977 scandal in a 2009 court room. But now, Samantha Geimer tells news that she wants to revisit the scandal in a new book she is releasing this winter.
In 2011, before the Zurich Film Festival, Polanski told news that Geimer is a double victim by being submitted to the scandal discussion decades later. “She [Samantha Geimer] is a double victim: my victim and a victim of the press.”

Geimer in 2009 agreed. She told a Los Angeles court not to reopen the Polanski case. “If Polanski cannot stand before the court to make this request, I, as the victim, can and I, as the victim do. I have urged that this matter come to a formal legal end. I have urged that the district attorney and the court dismiss these charges.”
So why is Geimer writing a book now at 47 after years of telling the news media that she wanted to pout the scandal behind her? It’s not particularly clear. “The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski” is set to be released by Atria, a Simon & Schuster imprint.

The book will provide “insight into many dimensions of the story that have never previously been revealed”, the publisher said in a news statement last year.
But in 2009, LALATE reported how Geimer told a Court to leave the case behind and to stop bringing it up. “Every time this case is brought to the attention of the Court, great focus is made of me, my family, my mother and others. That attention is not pleasant to experience and is not worth maintaining over some irrelevant legal nicety, the continuation of the case.”

In 1977, Gailey testified that she did not tell her mother about the nature of the photographs after that first February 20th meeting with Polanski. Gailey said then that Polanski asked for her another photography session.
The next encounter would be March 10, 1977 at the Mulholland home of Jack Nicholson. Jack Nicholson was not home at the time but his girlfriend at the time Anjelica Huston was in the house.
Gailey said “We did photos with me drinking champagne.” She also told the court “Toward the end it got a little scary, and I realized he had other intentions and I knew I was not where I should be. I just didn’t quite know how to get myself out of there.”

In the original case, Gailey testified that she told Polanski “no” several times and he refused. “I said no several times, and then, well, gave up on that.” Huston would give a statement to investigators.
“So I have no idea how much I drank… We did photos with me drinking champagne.” Gailey says she was invited into the Jacuzzi but Polanski again told her what to wear. “I was going to wear my underwear, but he said for me to take them off”. She then testified “He sat down beside me [on the couch] and asked me if I was okay. …. I said ‘No’. … He goes ‘Well you’ll be better.’ And I go ‘No, I won’t. I have to go home’…. He reached over and he kissed me. And I was telling him, ‘No,’ you know, ‘keep away’.”
Gailey appeared before the grand jury on March 24, 1977. Polanski would be arrested, pleaded guilty to one count of relations with Gailey. But before his sentencing hearing, Polanski fled.

So why is Geimer releasing the book now? “I am more than ‘… Victim Girl’, a tag the media pinned on me. My friends in junior high, scolded by their parents to stay away from that girl, also labeled me. I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose to share a tale that in its detail will reclaim my identity. I have been dogged by tired thinking and easy tags nearly my entire life. I am not a stick figure. I know what it is like to be a woman and a victim in the realest possible way”, she tells news today.
