Candace Nicole Parker was an All American born in St Louis. She came to fame as the first woman to dunk in NCAA games and the first to dunk twice in a college game. Parker is only the second female to dunk in a WNBA game, that on June 22, 2008.

Candace is also the 1st WNBA player to win WNBA MVP and WNBA Rookie of the Year Award in the same season.

PICTURE! Here is a photo of bartender Jamie Day. Jamie Day is the bartender from the Pub Room in Alton that LALATE featured back in October.

Jamie Day is one of the great stories of 2008 that needs to be told again.

Day was arrested near LALATE’s own St Louis, in Alton, Illinois, back in October for her employment “behavior”.

Jamie Day was having a normal day at work in Alton’s the Pub Room. There the 24 year old was the trusted bartender. But the day became anything but normal when she made her clothing choice for work.

Jamie got arrested for what she wasn’t wearing - misdemeanor lewd entertainment. And even more shocking — local WTHI TV reported that her arrest was because someone complained. Complained?

And this report from local press said “It’s not the first time it’s happened in that area.” The other occureance was in Jersey County’s town of Delhi.

No word what ever happened to Jamie Day. The Pub Room is located at 230 E BROADWAY ALTON, IL 62002

Here are your MODOT road conditions for December 15 2008. MODOT is battling road conditions Monday that are expected to freeze and then refreeze throughout the day. Plus MODOT in St Louis today deals with the new I-64, the first day of the 40 Flip.

The western leg of the I 64 / H 40 between 170 and Ballas gets opened today and the eastern leg between 170 and Kingshighway gets closed.

Here is the official road closures information for Monday from MODOT’s website:

Monday, December 15

* All lanes of I-64 are closed in both directions between Kingshighway Boulevard and I-170 until late 2009. Eastbound I-64 traffic will be routed north on I-170, east on I-70 back to I-64. Westbound I-64 traffic will be routed north on I-70, south on I-170 back to westbound I-64.
* By 5 a.m., Berthold Avenue will be closed at McCausland Avenue
* By 5 a.m., Laclede Station Road will be closed under I-64.
* By 5 a.m., all lanes of I-64 are open in both directions between Ballas Road and I-170 will be open including all I-64 entrance ramps.
* Beginning at 9 p.m., expect rolling lane closures for overhead sign removal on:
o Eastbound I-64 at northbound I-270
o Northbound I-270 at eastbound I-64
o Eastbound 70 at southbound I-170
o Northbound I-170 at westbound I-70
o Westbound I-70 at southbound I-270
o Southbound I-270 at westbound I-64
* From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. one lane of Brentwood Boulevard will be closed in each direction at I-64.
* From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. one lane of eastbound Eager Road will be closed at I-170.

St. Louis has a NEW Secret Santa that is passing out $100 bills to needy people. The new St Louis Secret Santa is a replacement for Larry Stewart who as a Secret Santa gave over $1 million out during his lifetime to Kansas City residents.

The St Louis Secret Santa appears as tiny woman, with her face covered up with sunglasses and a scarf and when she gives TWO $100 bills they are stamped “Secret Santa”.

She simply says: “The only condition is that you do something nice for someone. Pass it on.”

Stewart reportedly has a Kansas City Secret Santa replacement, a businessman in town who promised to Stewart before his passing to take over for him.

In total, reports estimate $20,000 in $100 bills are being given out by the Secret Santa woman in St Louis and the Secret Santa man in Kansas City.

An Ameren UE fire has hit LALATE’s St Louis! From outage map, to school closures, the Ameren UE Fire details are the following.

Ameren UE’s fire stuck a sub-station causing area outage Tuesday morning at 5 am local time. The result - 50,000 people without power.

The location of the fire: the Ameren UE sub-station in Shrewsbury

Outage areas: Crestwood, Clayton, Webster Groves, Shrewsbury and Affton.

The cause? A rep for Ameren says it was caused by oil igniting, causing a fire, and then exploding a transformer. By 7:00 am local time reportedly 25,000 of the outage residents had power restored.
