PHOTOS! Here again are pics of the White House’s Michael S Smith. The White House’s naming of Michael Smith as its White House Interior Designer Decorator was first announced on LALATE roughly one year ago.
On January 13 2009, LALATE told you about the wonderful look and inspiration Smith brings to the White House. In new reports this month, Smith’s inspiration is detailed further.
He’s added to the Oval Office a selection of pieces on loan from the National Museum of American History’s patent collection, consistent with his thirst for invention. They include Samuel Morse’s telegraph register (1849), John Peer’s gear-cutting machine (1847) and Henry Williams’ steamboats invention (1877).
In 2009, LALATE announced first that Michael Smith had been named new the White House Decorator, already with a best selling book on decorating, a second book, celebrity clients, amazing taste, and a huge fan base.

Reported clients of Smith include Stephen Spielberg, Rob Reiner, Cindy Crawford, Rupert Murdoch and Evelyn de Rothschild - who said of Smith he was the only designer who ever listened to what he said. Wendi Murdoch’s describes Smith as follows: “He has beautiful taste and is so much fun to be around! He’s like a wife’s best friend.”
He designs homes, has a line of furniture called Jasper, bath furnishings and faucets for Kallista, tiles for Ann Sacks, and rugs for Mansour.

The Presidential Transition Office announced details today regarding the selection of a White House decorator- a tradition and customary decision for new First Families.
Michael Smith has been chosen by Michelle Obama to help make The White House residence their home. A native of California, Smith studied interior design at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and continued his studies in London. He returned to California to open a home furnishings store and launched his own design firm in l990. Michael Smith serves on the Board of Trustees for the Otis College of Art and Design. He takes particular pride in his family-focused clientele and approach.
“Laura Bush has been a wonderful steward of The White House and created a beautiful residence for her family. I look forward to adding our own touch to the East Wing and creating a living space where our family feels comfortable, happy and settled. Michael shares my vision for creating a family friendly feel to our new home and incorporating some new perspectives from some of America’s greatest artists and designers,” said Michelle Obama.
