Tea Fire Water Emergency Boil Water Order


The Tea Fire has led to a Water Emergency Boil Water Order for Montecito Santa Barbara. A Tea Fire Water Emergency Boil Water Order was announced at 4 pm PST today for certain regions hit by the fire.

The California Department of Public Health, Santa Barbara County Health Department, and City of Santa Barbara Water System were behind the Boil Water Order. The Order is for sections of the region hit by mandatory evacuations.

The reported area of Boil Water Order is the following area:

North of Alameda Padre Serra (APS), between Mission Canyon Road and Sycamore Canyon Road/Coyote Road.

The order requires the boiling of all water for one minute minimum or use of bottled water for cooking and drinking until notice is given.

Tea Fire DEATH


The Tea Fire has resulted in one death, says reports. The Tea Fire has led to death of a Montecito man, says Santa Barbara reports tonight.

A 98-year-old who reportedly had evacuated safely from the fire has since died in a local area hotel from medical conditions suffered subsequent to the fire. Reports can not yet determine if those conditions were brought upon or worsened by the fire.

The Director of Santa Barbara County Public Heath says today mask are available to residents.

“These masks are being made available to the public for free. It’s better to avoid exposure, particularly for those with known lung or breathing problems. But if you have to be outdoors, especially if you’re doing vigorous activity, it is wise to wear a mask to reduce exposure to inhaled wild land fire smoke.”

Over 100 homes near Oprah have been lost, 1000 people evacuated, 13 injured, and 3,000 acres burned.

Montecito is home to the mega rich that includes residents Michael Douglas and Rob Lowe among the celebrities.

The area is predominately Spanish colonial homes. Winfrey’s home is 42 acres. Oprah’s home is confirmed still fine, along with homes with the above celebrities.

Montecito Inn Tea Fire


The Montecito Inn is fine following the Tea Fire Thursday. The Montecito Inn is reportedly fine after the Tea Santa Barbara Fire struck last night. Fire officials confirm no commercial structures have been lost during a press conference this morning. They suggestion the only exception could be a believed utility building.

The Montecito Inn was built in the 1920s by Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle.

Montecito is still under widespread power outages says Fire officials.

WATER EMERGENCY

Due to the firefighting activities in the area, water reservoirs have dropped to critically low levels. We strongly encourage ALL residents in the Montecito and Santa Barbara communities to limit their use of water during this emergency to allow the most efficient use of water for firefighting tactics.

MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS

- North of 192 between Hot Springs and Mission Canyon
- All of Sycamore Canyon
- North of 192 between Sycamore Cyn and Gibraltar Rd
- Sycamore Cyn @ Eucalyptus Hill, South to Salinas to 5 Points
- Hot Springs (eastern boundary) to Tunnel Rd (western boundary) from Hwy192 @ Hot Springs to Barker Pass to Alameda Padre Serra (southern boundary) to Camino Cielo (northern boundary)
- Both sides of Tunnel Rd above Montrose
- Only residents on the east side of Tunnel Rd below Montrose
- Residents on Gibraltar Rd above the west fork of the Cold Springs Trail should evacuate to the North via Camino Cielo. Residents below the west fork should evacuate South.

EVACUATION WARNINGS
- North of 192 from Hot Springs Road east to San Ysidro Rd.
- Mission Canyon north of Foothill Rd to Tunnel Rd westbound on Foothill to Ontare Rd, Ontare north of Foothill Rd
- Bordered on the north by APS, on the east by Montecito St. to Milpas, Milpas to Anapamu, Anapamu to Laguna, and Laguna to Los Olivos, and Los Olivos to AP
- Center is located at San Marcos High School - 4750 Hollister Ave,Goleta.

A Santa Barbara Montecito Fire news press conference underway reveals 100 homes lost, evacuations at San Marcos. The Santa Barbara Fire News press conference reveals this is the third major fire to hit the area in 13 months.

Of the 100 homes lost, 40 homes were lost near the Westmont College area. Officials says of the 100 homes many are exceptionally large mansions. It also says the fire jumped often homes based upon the materials used in the houses’ construction.

2500 residents have been evacuated said fire officials.

Reverse 911 system has given mandatory evacuation to residents. Officials say mostly private residences were burned in the fire, with the exception of a possible telephone company structure. They said the Tea Fire name came from the Tea Garden area where the fire started.

Fire heads said that mountain region residents should be prepared to evacuate.

Power outages are still widespread.
Winds last night were as high as 70 mph. Currently, they are gone but could return.

Westmont College students are fine says Santa Barbara Fire officials. Westmont College was hit by fire last night, the Tea Fire taking several Westmont College structures.

A press conference by Santa Barbara and Montecito Fire executives held within the half hour for Southern California press says Westmont College students are fine.

Fire officials say Westmont students and faculty numbering to 1,000 were moved into the college’s gym last night, as reported by LALATE 9 pm PST Thursday. Fire officials now reveal that gym was built fire resistant for exactly this purpose.

The press conference is still underway. LALATE will update within the half hour.

As LALATE reported earlier today, an arts facility structure and a faculty house have been lost, some students also being moved to a Local area church.

Westmont College students are sheltered as the Santa Barbara Montecito Tea Fire spreads. Westmont College locks down as Santa Barbara Tea Fire of Montecito continues to burn. Westmont College update 7:30 AM PST

Westmont College students and faculty are still sheltered in the college’s gym as reported last night by LALATE at 9 pm PST Thursday night when the fire was 3 hours old. Undetermined structures on the Westmont Campus have been lost, but reportedly one is for art studies. No students are endangered. Additionally one faculty house is reported gone.

Besides the gym, Westmont has moved some students to a Carpinteria Church.

Westmont College is a Christian liberal arts in stunning rolling hills. 1,000 students were reported on the campus when LALATE broke news of the Montecito blaze starting at 6 pm PST Thursday night.
