Michelle Obama explains her first reaction when she and Barack realized election night numbers were projecting him the winner.
Michelle tells 60 Minutes:
“I remember, we were watching the returns and, on one of the stations, Barack’s picture came up and it said, ‘President-Elect Barack Obama.’ And I looked at him and said, ‘You are the 44th president of the United States of America. Wow. What a country we live in.’”
Barack then said: “How about that?. Yeah. And then she said, ‘Are you going take the girls to school in the morning?’”
Michelle: “I did not. I didn’t say that.”

Michelle looked … amazing, perhaps the best dress she’s ever worn, a stunning, form fitting red dress.
The President Elect and President met on the South Portico of the White House. From there, the two walked around and headed into the Oval Office.

The Narcisco Rodriguez dress for her was modified. It came from the designer’s upcoming Spring 2009 collection.
The original dress had “sheer straps, low-cut neckline and short hem with sheer undertones. In its place were black side panels and a scoop neck. And those peek-a-boo sheer straps …? Replaced with solid black and covered with a sensible cardigan, natch” reports NY Daily News.
The designer is not saying if she met with Michelle, if she bought it off the rack, and who made the dramatic changes to the outfit.
Bottom line - it looked great.

The dress starts black at the top, blends into red and then carries black accents on the side and of course on the sleeves.

Most voting polls in this nation opened at 7 am this morning. LALATE was the first to vote in its precinct at 7 am this morning PST Los Angeles.

Michelle said Obama’s grandmother, as first reported sick here on LALATE days ago, is doing fine. Madelyn Dunham raised Obama from a child and lives in Hawaii.
“‘She’s tough, she’s been through a lot. She’s still hanging on. If you wonder where I got my toughness, it’s from Toot.’”

Here is Barack and Michelle Obama’s statement about the Jennifer Hudson family killings. Michelle and Barack Obama live close to Jennifer Hudson’s family, 4 miles away.
Michelle and Barack Obama are speaking out today about the killings in their hometown.
Darnell Hudson Donerson and Jason Hudson were shot dead, said investigators today, in multiple gun shots. One of the two victims has injuries that suggest they were fighting the attacker, placing domestic violence among the possible situations for the crime scene.
Michelle and Barack Obama have issued the following statement:
“Michelle and I were absolutely heartbroken to learn about this unimaginable tragedy, and we want Jennifer to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. We also pray for the swift and safe return of her young nephew.”
Barack chose Jennifer Hudson, who now lives in Tampa Florida, to sing the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention.
