Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Red Lobster Salaries Dominant New Lawsuit

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Employees of Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Red Lobster are suing over alleged unpaid salaries. If you are server at either restaurant chain, today’s federal lawsuit in Miami could impact you.

A potential class action lawsuit has been filed against the parent company of Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Red Lobster in Miami Federal court today. The suit against Darden Restaurants claims that employees are owed millions of salaries that they allegedly were never paid. They suit additionally seeks interest on those purported pay checks. The suit asserts that Darden underpaid employees from August 2009 to the present who worked as servers at Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Red Lobster and several other restaurants owned by Darden.

On its website, Darden indicates to news that it was named by Fortune as one of the one hundred best companies to work for in 2012. “In fact, Darden is the only full-service restaurant company ever to be named to the list”, said the company at the time. “We’re proud of this recognition and we’ll continue to do our best every day to be a deserving recipient.” The company has yet to comment about today’s news. Today’s case has been filed by plaintiffs’ attorney David Lichter.

Hurricane Leslie 2012 Projected Path Delivers Florida Swells

Hurricane Leslie 2012 Projected Path Delivers Florida Swells

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – A possible Hurricane Leslie 2012 projected path got updated moments ago by the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Initial tracking on Leslie suggested she would reach hurricane status by last weekend and move through the Caribbean. But that never happened. She failed to organize herself and slowly drift northward.

But now the NHC tells news that TS Leslie could become Hurricane Leslie in the next couple of days. Without much specificity, the NHC tells news that Leslie is finally forming into a stronger, well organized system. In a news statement, then NHC says that “some strengthening is possible” for Leslie. They added that “Leslie could become a hurricane in a couple of days”.

Leslie is not over the Caribbean. Rather, she is drifting northward. But new tracking on Leslie (above) shows that she is moving in a northerly pattern with a slight westward shift after Thursday. She is expected to remain east of Florida until Saturday.

Leslie’s movement, however, is not consistent. NHC is predicting a “slow northward motion which may be erratic at times … over the next couple of days”. She is moving slower than previously reported on LALATE. Now Leslie is only shifting at three miles per hour. But her sustained winds are not decreasing. Those have grown to sixty-five mile per hour winds.

Officials tell news that there are no alerts or warnings in place. But swells will continue from Leslie in Central Florida, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands over the next few days. The NHC advising that “these swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”

Hurricane Isaac 2012 Projected Path Remains on Track for West Florida

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Hurricane Isaac 2012 projected path remains on track for West Florida today, officials tell news. Hurricane Isaac 2012’s path Sunday remains consistent with initial tracking predictions Saturday; but Isaac is shifting slightly more westerly than anticipated. The National Hurricane Center, in a news briefing out of Miami this morning, reports that the Florida Keys remains in the path of Isaac. But with Isaac’s shift westward, several communities on Florida’s eastern side will be impacted as well.

Hurricane Isaac 2012 is prompting a mixture of both hurricane and tropical storm alerts for southern Florida today. While Miami is not in Isaac’s path, beaches will experience rising tide levels and communities could experience tropical weather patterns, officials tell news.

The same is true elsewhere across south Florida today. But while Isaac still remains a tropical storm, it will increase to hurricane status as it nears Key West Sunday, officials tell news. After reaching Key West, Isaac will further intensify, passing through the Gulf of Mexico, the NHC tell news.

How strong will Isaac get? The National Hurricane Center is advising news today that Isaac will become a Category 2 Hurricane, at least by Tuesday. Hurricane Isaac is expected to reach the Florida Keys Sunday evening. Isaac is expected to be over central Florida Tuesday and then reach the northern Gulf communities on Wednesday. But in a news briefing this morning, NHC issued a a hurricane watch for east of Morgan City, Louisiana to Indian Pas, Florida, including New Orleans. A hurricane warning, however, remains in effect for the Florida Keys. A warning is also in place for Bonita Beach southward to Ocean Reef. In contrast, a tropical storm watch has been extended for Florida’s east coast north of Sebastian Inlet to Flagler Beach, officials tell news.

NHC tell news that a hurricane watch governs activity within the next forty-eight hours. In contrast, a hurricane watch covers activity in the next twenty-four hours.

Within the last hour, officials have issued mandatory evacuation orders for Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Meantime, Shell is shutting down operations and evacuating platforms in Gulf of Mexico because of the storm’s anticipated arrival on Monday.

Hurricane Isaac 2012 Tracking projected Path Prompts Florida Keys, Miami Warnings

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Hurricane Isaac’s 2012 tracking and projected path is prompting Florida Keys and Miami warnings today. Hurricane Isaac 2012 is heading for the Florida Keys and will impact with storm conditions southwest Florida including Naples and eastern Florida including Miami. At least two airport closures have been announced to news today. But officials indicate that the Florida Keys are not under mandatory evacuations.

Hurricane Isaac 2012 tracking updates today reveal his projected path will take the storm to the Florida Keys Sunday. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) tells news that Hurricane Isaac is passing over Cuba Saturday. But by Sunday August 25, 2012, the concern is the Florida Keys.

Irene Toner, emergency management director, issued a news statement today indicating that the Florida Keys are not under mandatory evacuations. Rather, the region is under voluntary orders. “If you choose to remain in the Florida Keys during this storm, the only safe place for you to be is inside”.

Isaac could stay across the Florida Keys from Sunday morning to the end of Monday, the NHC tells news. As a result, officials report that Key West International Airport and Marathon Airport are closing today, Saturday, at 7 pm EST. The airports will remain closed until further notice.

Monroe County has set up a hurricane hotline phone number and website for residents. The number is 1-800-955-5504 or online at monroecounty-fl.gov.

Evacuation shelters are opening at 2pm EST Saturday for Key West High School, Sugarloaf School, Coral Shores High School in Plantation Key and Stanley Swiftly School in Marathon, NBC is reporting. At 3 pm Saturday, the Snake Creek Bridge will close.

Gov. Rick Scott has issued a state of emergency. “That’s standard protocol to make sure we can coordinate our efforts with federal, state and local so we can have the proper response,” he said in an news statement today. The storm is currently passing over Guantanamo, Cuba Saturday and heading to southwest Nassau.

When Isaac arrives in Florida, he will be a Category 1 Hurricane with winds upwards of 95 mph, officials tell news. But what will happen with Florida? And will Isaac only impact southwest Florida?

In a news briefing Saturday at 11 am EST, the NHC is advising residents that all of South Florida, from Miami to Naples, will be impacted in some form by Hurricane Isaac. The impact, however, will be greatest on the western side of Florida.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez told news that residents should begin preparations for Saturday through Monday. “You should begin putting up your shutters now. Even tropical storm winds can cause damage so you shouldn’t wait until the last moment to protect your home”. Gimenez, however, said that no schools or public transportation are currently closed. Miami International Airport remains open.

On Saturday, the NHC issued a tropical storm warning for Florida’s East Coast, north of Sebastian Inlet to Flagler Beach. A tropical storm warning means that major storm conditions could arrive in the area within the next thirty-six hours, namely between Saturday and Monday. A hurricane watch, in contrast, was issued for the Florida Keys and the west coast of Florida from Bonita Beach southward. A hurricane watch, in turn, means that hurricane conditions could happen between Saturday and Monday. For continuing coverage of Hurricane Isaac, click HERE.

Hurricane Isaac 2012 Projected Path Leaves Florida Tracking for Sunday

Hurricane Isaac 2012 Projected Path Leaves Florida Tracking for Sunday

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Hurricane Isaac 2012 projected path is leaving Florida tracking concerns for Sunday. Hurricane Isaac 2012 will reach Florida as early as Sunday, according to the last hurricane tracking reports issued by multiple weather news agencies this morning. The consensus among those news reports is that TS Isaac will pass over Haiti Friday and will reach the western, southern tip of Florida, as Hurricane Isaac, Sunday. But Hurricane Isaac’s projected path is still causing confusion for Florida.

The latest update for Hurricane Isaac is not good for the Gulf. Weather news agencies are alerting that on Friday August 24, 2012 TS Isaac will be passing through the Dominican Republic and Haiti. On Friday, in passing over the island of Hispaniola, TS Isaac will increase. After days of remaining a tropical storm, Isaac will intensify Friday, officials tell news, growing to hurricane status.

Isaac will pass over Cuba Friday and Saturday. In fact, officials tell news that pre-trial hearings set for the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have been currently cancelled. Moreover, at least two hundred people have been evacuated from Cuba in advance of Isaac’s arrival this weekend.

For Friday, the concern initially remains the residents of Haiti. Nearly a half million residents, who lost their homes in the deadly earthquake two years ago, live in a tarp city. They tell news that are refusing to leave their tarp homes, despite the arrival of Isaac today. Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe is advising residents to prepare accordingly. He has designated evacuation facilities. But local news is reporting that residents are not agreeing to leave their homes. “The risks are obvious in terms of flooding of low-lying areas,” said Jean-Michel Vigreux, director for CARE International in Haiti.

But what will happen to Florida? The National Hurricane Center out of Miami is in consensus with other weather news agencies that Isaac will pass toward the western, southern tip of Florida and move northerly, starting Sunday. That is causing concern for Tampa.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn tells news that the Republican National Convention, scheduled to start Monday, is happening just as Isaac passes through central Florida. Buckhorn tell news that he has multiple contingency plans in place if in fact Isaac impacts Tampa. Florida Gov. Rick Scott confirms the same to news. Convention CEO William Harris tells news, however, that “We continue to move forward with our planning and look forward to a successful convention.”

In a news briefing this morning from Miami, the National Hurricane Center said that that hurricane watch for Friday covers Haiti. The NHC also tells news that “interests in the remainder of Cuba …. the Bahamas, South Florida, and the Florida Keys should monitor the progress of Isaac.”

Massive flooding could come from Isaac. Initial reports indicated rain accumulations of up to eight inches is expected. Now those numbers have been adjusted upward to twelve inches.

The NHC tell news “not to focus on the exact track because of forecast uncertainties and the fact that Isaac has a large area of tropical storm force winds.” Isaac is expected to be a Category 1 Hurricane next week. It could reach the Florida/Alabama line on Wednesday after passing through Texas and Florida Sunday.

Hurricane Isaac 2012 projected Path Puts Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic on Alert

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Hurricane Isaac 2012 path for Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic is putting residents on alert. The Hurricane Isaac 2012 path will include Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands today, the National Hurricane Center tells news. On Friday, the alert covers the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Turks and Caicos.

In a news briefing Thursday morning from Miami, the NHC warned residents of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to be on alert today August 23, 2012. Tropical Storm Isaac will become Hurricane Isaac by Friday, officials tell news.

But for Thursday, the concern is first Puerto Rico. The NHC tell news that “tropical storm conditions are expected over portions of Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands today [Thursday].” But while Puerto Rico will get tropical storm conditions on Thursday, the Dominican Republic will get hurricane conditions on Friday. “Hurricane conditions are expected over portions of the Dominican Republic by Friday and over portions of Haiti Friday or Friday night”, officials tell news.

After Haiti, Hurricane Isaac 2012 will head to the Southern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands late Friday August 24, the NHC reports to news. The storm has passed over Leeward Islands today. But dangerous surf and rip tide elevations will exist across that region through the weekend. Also impacted today will be the Winward Islands.

But officials warn news that Puerto Rico will have bad surf and rip current, not just Thursday, but the next few days. Residents are being warned across the impacted region to stay away from coastal regions. There, surf levels could jump to at least five feet higher than average levels as Hurricane Isaac passes. Officials deem the situation as featuring “dangerous waves”.

A tropical storm warning, in contrast, is in place for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and neighboring regions today. For continuing coverage of Hurricane Issac, click HERE.
