Darth Vader Boy, Max Page, Recovers after Surgery


LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Darth Vader boy aka Mini Darth Vader, Max Page, is doing well today after open heart surgery. Surgeons who treated Page told news today that the surgery was successful and he is resting well. In advance of the surgery, the dubbed Darth Vader boy told news that he has gotten familiar with his recent surgeries.

Born with congenital heart defect, Page has undergone eight previous surgeries. Officials told news that this current procedure was to repair a hole and replace his pulmonary valve. But with a successful surgery, Page will not have to replace the pulmonary valve until fifteen years from now.

In a news briefing, doctors said that Max was alert and in good spirits today. Max came to fame his 2011 Volkswagen Super Bowl in which he played Darth Vader. He now appears on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless.

Officials indicated to news that Max will remain in the hospital through next week. After he is discharged, it will take him upwards of eight weeks until he fully recovers.

Shortly after the Super Bowl aired, many fans still didn’t know what Max looked like outside the Darth Vader costume. When Max Page appeared on the Today Show at the time, the surprise was that Page in fact slightly resembled Anakin Skywalker. Before the Volkswagen ad, Max had done several TV commercials before, but none that ran nationally.

Max had previously told news that he was shocked by the outpouring of support from fans in advance of his surgery.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Max Page, aka Mini Darth Vader from the Volkswagen Passat 2011 Super Bowl commercial, will undergo surgery today. Max Page delighted fans with his portrayal of a mini Darth Vader in the highly acclaimed commercial for the Volkswagen Passat for the 2011 Super Bowl.

But this week, Page told news that he will undergo open heart surgery. Today’s heart surgery will be Page’s eighth since birthday. Page will receive a replacement valve that will last him until around age 17. He will have then undergo surgery at age 17 to replace today’s valve and undergo another surgery ten years later to replace his valve yet again.

In a news conference this week, Page and officials from the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles explained the procedure. Page said he will be in the hospital for five days following the surgery. Page suffers from a congenital heart defect since just after birth. Since roughly age 3, Page has lived with a pacemaker.

Dr. Michael Silka tells news that the procedure today insures flow of blood between heart and lungs. The hospital has set up a fundraising page located HERE. Nearly seven thousand dollars of the twenty-thousand goal has been donated.
