LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Mark Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur (photos below) are getting serious. Mark Sanford and former mistress Maria Belen Chapur have been together since that notorious June 2009 weekend in which Sanford went missing to visit Chapur out of the country. Today, Sanford’s former wife Jenny Sanford told news that her ex husband is still seeing Maria Belen Chapur.

On ABC’s GMA, Jenny Sanford said the Sanford and Chapur are still together, but admits Chapur has not met Sanford’s kids yet. “Sometimes I think it would be nice if he stayed with her because it would make it seem like maybe there was a reason to break the whole family up and go through all this,” Jenny Sanford told GMA today. “But it really doesn’t bother me one way or the other.”

Mark Sanford is a 16 year career politician. Because of term limits, his reign as South Carolina’s Governor comes to an end this January. Sanford fought back critics during the scandal, admitted to ethics violations, and paid roughly $75,000 in fines.

Jenny had previously said of Mark Sanford “Over the course of both pastoral and marriage counseling it became clear to me that he was just obsessed with going to see this woman. I have learned that these affairs are almost like an addiction. They just can’t break away from them.”

Chapur admitted the relationship at the time to C5N News in Buenos Aires. “I have decided to send this statement to clear up certain incorrect things that are being reported and put an end to a matter that, as you imagine, is very painful to me, my two children, my entire family and close friends.” Maria Belen Shapur lived at the time in the Republica de La India in Buenos Aires in the Barrio Palermo, near the the Buenos Aires Zoo. Shapur is fluent in English, Portuguese and Chinese.

Among Sanford’s notable leaked text messages to Chapur included: “Two, mutual feelings …. You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines … the … beauty of you holding yourself … in the faded glow of the night’s light.”

Jenny Sanford said of the affair previously: “It never occurred to me that he would do something like that… All I can do is forgive. Reconciliation is something else, and that is going to be a harder road.

“I have put my heart and soul into being a good mother and wife. Now I think it’s up to my husband to do the soul-searching to see if he wants to stay married. The ball is in his court.”
