LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – An MIA salute during the Madonna Halftime Super Bowl Show 2012 has prompted controversy today. MIA gave a “salute” through an otherwise clean Madonna Halftime Super Bowl show. And while broadcaster NBC was quick to apologize for rapper MIA’s conduct, the question remains how the FCC will respond. MIA is engaged to Benjamin Bronfman Jr aka Ben Brewer (photos below). In 2004, a Janet Jackson Justin Timberlake “wardrobe malfunction” prompted a national controversy for broadcaster CBS. The Jackson matter spawn a legendary appellate decision about broadcasters, Super Bowl Halftime shows, and the FCC.

Madonna’s Halftime Super Bowl show featured jaw-dropping brilliant staging, a mixture of great musical numbers and million dollar moves. But for a split second, during Madonna’s new song Give Me All Your Luvin, a camera pulled in tight on rapper MIA. Suddenly, in a blink of the eye, MIA gave the camera, during her personal close-up, a “salute”.

NBC was shocked by the antics by the rapper that aired live during its Super Bowl XLVI telecast. It also confirmed to news that it missed the gesture. “We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime,” said Christopher McCloskey, a spokesman for NBC. He added “It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.”

It remains unclear what Janet Jackson thought of the moment. In 2004, Jackson suffered a wardrobe malfunction during her Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake. The telecast aired on CBS outraged viewers.

In 2008, a U.S. appeals ruled for CBS on the Jackson wardrobe malfunction. The appeals court threw out a $550,000 fine against each CBS Corp television stations for its broadcast of the Jackson matter.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Madonna – Elton John feud erupted at the Golden Globes last night. Elton John’s husband David Furnish continued the feud after Madonna took home the award for Best Original Song. Both Elton and Madonna were nominated in the same category. On the red carpet, the feud erupted before the telecast. After Madonna won, Furnish continued the bickering on Facebook.

Carson Daly, NBC’s red carpet interviewer, asked Elton about the nomination before the telecast. John said “Madonna doesn’t have a f-ing chance.” Daly responded “Those are fighting words” prompting Elton to respond “no, those are actual words”.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A monkey riding dog has overshadowed Madonna’s halftime anticipation. Madonna is set to perform the halftime show at the Superbowl in January. And while her set list and details about her performance made news this weekend, Madonna was ultimately overshadowed by another football halftime performance … in which a monkey rides a dog.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – This week in Venice, critics hated Madonna’s film while Madonna revealed she also hates hydrangeas, even when given by a fan. Madonna is battling two rounds of criticisms today, first about her film and second about her ungrateful remarks caught on tape after a fan gave her hydrangeas during a news conference / media stop.

Madonna was caught on tape accepting a beautiful blue hydrangea from an adoring fan while promoting her new film. As she accepted the flower, the singer gave a big smile and said “Thank you” twice to the fan. She then proceeded to put the flower under her table, turns to someone next to her, and rolls her eyes.

Then in her notable fake British accent, Madonna turned to another person on her right and said “I absolutely loathe hydrangeas!” The person responded “He [the fan] obviously doesn’t know that.”

Ironically, critics aren’t liking her film “W.E.” as well. The Playlist says the film “becomes glacially paced and uninvolving”. Daily Variety says the film is “Burdened with risible dialogue and weak performances”. And the Guardian says of the film is poor. “What an extraordinarily silly, preening, fatally mishandled film this is. It may even surpass 2008’s ‘Filth and Wisdom,’ Madonna’s calamitous first outing as a filmmaker.”

One of the film’s better reviews has an ironic word to describe Madonna. The Daily Mail says of the film “A lot of people will loathe it, simply because it’s been made by Madonna. But if they were to watch it with no knowledge of who directed, they would be pleasantly surprised.”

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The first Madonna single off her new album will debut in February or March 2012, the singer tells news. Madonna’s new single, yet untitled, will get a digital release as earlier as February 2012, she tells Italian news during her visit at the Venice Film Festival this week. Madonna had previously told news that album efforts started in July of this year.

When visiting the film festival, Madonna told news that she has in fact been in the studio for several months. Previously her reps said that the singer had been working as early as July 2011 on her new project. But when asked specifically about her debut single off that 2012 album, Madonna told news “I’m not sure but the first single will be released in February or March.”

Madonna is reportedly teaming up with a wide variety of talents. Among them are reportedly Joe Henry (“Jump”), Jim Steinman (of Meat Loaf fame) and David Guetta. Also Jean Baptiste (Black Eyed Peas) and William Orbit (“Ray of Light”) are linked to the project.
