WASHINGTON COUNTY (LALATE) – PHOTOS. Jessie Lunderby’s Playboy pics were taken for people not in prison. So why are Jessie Lunderby’s Playboy photos grounds for her suspension?

Jessie Lunderby is a prison guard covered earlier on LALATE Tuesday. In prison, inmates obviously do not have (lawful) access to Playboy Magazine. And outside prison, Jessie wanted to make some extra money, and perhaps achieve some level of fame. By all accounts, her life as a Playboy model didn’t cross her life as a prison guard. So what’s the harm?

Jessie Lunderby’s problems are not unique. Women suspended from work because of their posing for Playboy is not a new story. In 2009, LALATE reported on the school teacher who faced the same fate after she posed for the publication on the side. Parents were furious as fathers of students looked, and continued to look, at her spread.

But here it’s different. We’re talking about prison inmates. Who in prison is going to see the guard’s spread? And does appearing in a Bunny’s publication lesser her work perception? Apparently so, with Lunderby placed on paid suspension.

Jessie Lunderby, 21, took a job at Washington County, Ark. jail agreeing to its conduct policy. Policies in place, according to Maj. Roy Hoyt, may prohibit “conduct unbecoming of an officer or employee of the department.” But Lunderby says she told them about the spread and they “knew about” it.

So what did Jessie do wrong? Lunderby did the spread off duty, and not in official uniform. Prison officials contend her conduct may be unbecoming an officer or employee, may involve not getting permission for off-duty work. But do you ever wonder if other women get to rule on this conduct of fellow female jailers, or is a male prison staff judge and jury?

As a result, Jessie Lunderby is currently on paid administrative leave.
