Bobby Petrino Hired after Jessica Dorrell Cheating Affair Scandal

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Bobby Petrino has been hired by another school less than one year after his Jessica Dorrell cheating affair scandal prompted his termination. Jessica Dorrell (photos below) and Bobby Petrino dominated news just last April when Petrino finally admitted to the affair. Petrino on Monday was hired by Western Kentucky.

When the Bobby Petrino Jessica Dorrell scandal erupted at Arkansas, Petrino was under a roughly $3.5 million per annual contract with which a sliding scale featuring an $18 million buyout provision. Petrino walked away without a penny, being denied his 2012 year’s salary and his buyout provision. Petrino agreed to waive his right to object to that decision by the University.

Petrino’s new contract at Western Kentucky is a four year deal with an annual base salary of $850,000, insiders tell news. Officials have yet to indicate if there is any additional bonus in the contract. But in a news briefing Monday, officials indicated that Petrino will not have a buyout provision like he had at Arkansas.

Rather insiders tell news that, under the new contract, if Petrino cancels the contract at any time, his salary is terminated. Plus Petrino must the repay the university $1.2 million over six monthly payments.

In his termination at Arkansas, officials ruled that “all of these facts, individually and collectively, are clearly contrary to character and responsibilities of the person occupying the position of the Head Football Coach – an individual who should serve as a role model and a leader for our student-athlete.” Officials also added that “Moreover, all of these facts, individually and collectively, negatively and adversely affect the reputation of the university as well as our athletics programs”.

Petrino admitted to not only keeping his cheating affair a secret, but also being fabricating a tale to supervisors. Phone logs and Arkansas officials claimed that Petrino and Dorrell had an alleged affair which began as early as September 2011.

After being hired by Petrino, Dorrell then received from Petrino what he called a gift. The gift was nearly half her annual salary, a check for twenty-thousand dollars drawn from his personal funds. With that money, Dorrell allegedly went out and bought a black Acura the first week of her job.

In a news briefing Monday, Petrino said “At this point in my career, it’s about getting back and coaching player. It just happened to open up at a place we love. I hope it can be as long as possible.”

Jessica Dorrell Bobby Petrino Cheating Affair Scandal Prompts Admissions

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Jessica Dorrell Bobby Petrino scandal is heading to TV today with Petrino’s first TV news interview. While Jessica Dorrell (photos below) remains silent about the Arkansas Razorbacks scandal, Bobby Petrino is opening up about the affair that cost him his job, his bike, and almost his marriage. Petrino will grant his first TV news interview today to ESPN Sports Center to discuss former mistress Jessica Dorrell, wife Becky Petrino, and his impact on the Arkansas Razorbacks program.

Petrino’s family, and specifically Becky Petrino, have remained silent since his wreck of April 1, 2011. Also silent has been Dorrell. Dorrell was hired by Petrino on March 23, 2012 for a salary of $55,735. But by April 17, she signed a settlement agreement with the University. “Jessica M. Dorrell began her employment as Student-Athlete Development Coordinator on March 23, 2012 and resigned in good standing on April 17, 2012. At the time of resignation, Ms. Dorrell’s annual salary was $55,735?, read the settlement agreement released to news earlier this year.

Under thatagreement, Dorrell was prohibited from profiting from the controversy about the Petrino wreck in a way that impacts “her affiliation with Razorback athletics.”

At the time of the scandal, Petrino was earning a huge pay check from UAF. Athletic Director Jeff Long had previously given Petrino a seven year contract, with a roughly $3.56 million annual contract and an $18 million buyout provision. In the end, Petrino agreed to lose his annual salary and his buyout provision. Petrino was fired with cause, denying him a sliding scale of an $18 million buyout provision. Petrino lost roughly $21 million.

Petrino lied to not only national news but also Long and his university after the Dorrell crash. Now Petrino wants to show clarity during his ESPN interview. “I had an affair. I cheated on my wife. I knew there were consequences that were going to happen. I knew that I had this facing me. That I had to tell my wife, I had to tell my boss.” He says there is no excuse for his actions. “I look back on it and there is no good answer. I wasn’t thinking and I wasn’t acting correctly.”

He tells news that he is still with his wife Becky, but they are in counseling. Petrino says that it will be hard to watch Arizona this fall, from TV, rather than the field. But Long previously told Petrino that Petrino’s conduct has hurt the university’s reputation.

Long told Petrino “Your conduct and actions in this matter have generated voluminous negative media stories and opinions, within Arkansas and nationally, that have harmed the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our athletics programs.” He added “We are now faced with the task of restoring the reputation of our institution and our athletics programs that many individuals and teams have worked hard to build over the years.

Jessica Dorrell Text Photos Prompted Bobby Petrino Affair Confessions after Wreck

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jessica Dorrell texts and photos prompted a Bobby Petrino affair confession to his supervisors after his wreck, new documents reveal. The Jessica Dorrell Bobby Petrino affair began in October, Petrino admitted during an April 10, 2012 meeting with his supervisor, Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long. Long’s notes from that meeting, spanning twenty-five pages, were released to news Thursday. Also released were Long’s notes from meeting with Jessica Dorrell and Dorrell’s companion, Josh Morgan

Long’s written impressions suggest that Long didn’t believe details he was hearing from Petrino or Dorrell. Among them was Petrino’s claim that the affair began in October 2011 but ended in February 2012.

Petrino claims that he and Dorrell, for unspecified reasons, decided to stop their affair in February. But Petrino claims Dorrell, not him, came up with the idea for her to apply for a job under him in March.

Long appears skeptical that the relationship had ended when Dorrell sought the Petrino position. In documents previously released, Dorrell’s hiring was pushed by Petrino. Petrino also fast tracked Dorrell through the hiring process.

Dorrell and Petrino admitted to exchanging more than four thousand text messages, some with photos, during their affair starting in October. In one note, Long claims that Dorrell asked for a kiss from Petrino. The two were reportedly sitting in a car after lunch in October 2011. Long’s note reads “she said are you going to kiss me”. Long also writes “Kissed on lunch outing.”

Long didn’t believe, however, that the affair ended in February 2012. “Why would she say she expected the relationship to continue if the motorcrash didn’t occur,” Long writes in another note.

Dorrell and Petrino were asked about gifts. Reportedly there wasn’t just one but as many as “5-6 gifts”. Petrino gave Dorrell $20,000. But that worried Long. Long wrote that the payment could put Arkansas “vulnerable to … harassment [lawsuit]“.

Long’s even met with Josh Morgan, alleged Dorrell partner. Morgan said “Football gave her a bonus to get a car”. Long however notes that the gift was given by Petrino, not Arkansas Football, three days after Petrino hired her.

Petrino, however, thought the money wasn’t a problem. Long wrote a huge exclamation point next to the line “[Petrino] never thought the gift was a problem or the relationship?” Dorrell claimed the gift was a “signing bonus”.

Long tried to keep Petrino. He wrote “still looking for ways you [Petrino] can remain our coach. Help me understand why those are not violations of your contract.”

Previously released documents revealed that Petrino wanted to keep his job. On April 6, Petrino wanted to know if he faced firing. Petrino wrote “Yes I believe he does. Is the mood to fire me or to keep me”. Assistant athletic director Chris Wyrick told Petrino that the university was likely to treat the scandal as a “mulligan”. “You have done the job and most feel like you are due a mulligan.”

Long told news about that March 28 hiring that “Coach Petrino abused his authority when over the past few weeks he made a staff decision and personal choices that benefited himself and jeopardized the integrity of the football program.”

Long found fault that Petrino not only carried on an inappropriate relationship with Dorrell for a “significant” amount of time, but also never disclosed the payment to the university, nor the relationship during her hiring process.

Petrino has since told news “The simplest response I have is: I’m sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I’ve let down by making selfish decisions. I’ve taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself.”

Jessica Dorrell Resigns from Arkansas Following Bobby Petrino Wreck

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – Jessica Dorrell has resigned amidst the Bobby Petrino wreck scandal. Jessica Dorrell (photos below) got a twenty-thousand dollar gift from Bobby Petrino after being hired by Petrino in her new job. She used the money to get herself a new black Acura. Now Dorrell has agreed to resign and get an additional $14,000 settlement payment from the university. Athletic Director Jeff Long made the news announcement late last night.

Jessica Dorrell and Long agreed that her resignation was best for all parties and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Long said the decision is part of a “settlement and resolution of all matters between the parties”.

The settlement agreement was signed by “Jessica Marie Dorrell” on April 17, 2012 and released to news that date. The settlement gives Dorrell a statement of good standing. “Jessica M. Dorrell began her employment as Student-Athlete Development Coordinator on March 23, 2012 and resigned in good standing on April 17, 2012. At the time of resignation, Ms. Dorrell’s annual salary was $55,735″, reads an attached exhibit to the settlement.

The settlement signed by Chancellor David Gearhart included a non-admission of liability, officials confirm to news. “The Parties agreed that the fact this Agreement was executed shall not be used as evidence that the Board and/or any of the Released Parties admit liability or wrongdoing in connection with the alleged facts that serve as the basis of any grievance, lawsuit or controversy in connection with any alleged violation of University policy.”

Dorrell in reaching he settlement agrees not to profit from the controversy about the Petrino wreck in a way that impacts “her affiliation with Razorback athletics.”

Dorrell believed that her resignation helps the future of the Razorbacks football. “While Ms. Dorrell had a legitimate right to apply for and accept a position within the football program, the circumstances surrounding the former coach’s decision to hire her compromised her ability to be effective in such a position,” Long wrote. “She and I believe she should have the opportunity to move on.”

Long tells news that the University has no current plans to rehire anyone for the same position. Petrino’s assistant head coach Taver Johnson will guide the team while Long looks for a replacement.

Dorrell wanted in her settlement a letter of reference from the Board for future jobs. That exhibit mentioned above shall serve as the reference. “If contacted for a reference, the Athletic Director (or his successors) shall issue the letter of recommendation attach to this Agreement as Exhibit A which is incorporated herein by reface.”

The University in reaching a settlement with Dorrell got protection for itself. Dorrell released and waived and any and all “claims of any nature whatsoever against the employee … providing the recommendation as well as the Board.”

As the scandal erupted, Arkansas was fast to release documents to the news media pursuant to Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). That was unchanged in the settlement. Dorrell agreed that “the Board shall the full right and authority to release this Agreement on its own initiative without prior notice to Ms. Dorrell.”

Bobby Petrino, in contrast, was fired with cause. He was under a roughly $3.5 million per annual contract with Arkansas which a sliding scale of an $18 million buyout provision. Petrino walked away without a penny, being denied this year’s salary and his buyout provision. Petrino agreed to waive his right to object to that decision by the University.

Jessica Dorrell, Bobby Petrino Void Prompts Arkansas Razorbacks Replacement Effort

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Could the Jessica Dorrell – Bobby Petrino wreck for the Arkansas Razorbacks be solved by Jon Gruden? As the Jessica Dorrell (photos below) scandal in the Bobby Petrino case expands, so too are hiring efforts for Petrino’s replacement. And without a blink of the eye, Jon Gruden’s name has been brought up. While Razorbacks officials haven’t spoken to Gruden, Gruden is being pushed by John Daly.

As more details about the Jessica Dorrell Bobby Petrino scandal filter to news, the focus has now turned to Petrino’s replacement. Who will be Jeff Long’s replacement for Bobby Petrino? Daly says it should be Gruden.

“Been trying to help, all is in Jeff Long’s hands” writes Daly. “If that is the route they want to go, I think that [Jon] Gruden would be the perfect fit. Razorback fans would welcome Gruden with open arms.”

Daly added “I know it’s a long shot, but I live for Arkansas”. He  ended with the hashtag “#justgivehimacall”.

Has Gruden spoken to Long? Gruden tells Mark Wiedmer that “John Daly’s called me about it. But I haven’t heard from the school.” Gruden once joked “The only coaching job I could get when I was fired by the Bucs was an assistant offensive line coach at a local high school.”

But in the last year, whenever a college job has opened, Gruden’s name always gets mentioned. The same has been the case for the NFL. Last year, Gruden was a reported front runner for the 49ers gig. In December 2010, it was for the Browns. At the time, John Clayton reported that Gruden and John Fox were clear possible candidates for a potential Browns position.

A month earlier, Gruden turned down the UM reported offer that would have paid him a possible $3 million annually. Gruden at the time said he was committed to staying with his broadcast TV job. But Florida news reports said Gruden was interested in a top NFL job, if offered.

The question remains how much will Athletic Director Jeff Long pay for a Petrino replacement? Petrino’s last deal was seven years, with a roughly $3.56 million annual contract and an $18 million buyout provision.

The key for Long, however, will be not just talent, but also adhering to that infamous Section 14(f) cause. Petrino’s violation of that Section of his contract resulted in his termination.

Long told Petrino “Otherwise engaging in conduct, as solely determined by the University, which is clearly contrary to the character and responsibilities of a person occupying the position of Head Football Coach or which negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the University or UAF’s athletics programs in any way.”

Long has previously revealed to news that he must, not only rebuild the coaching staff, but also the school’s reputation. “We are now faced with the task of restoring the reputation of our institution and our athletics programs that many individuals and teams have worked hard to build over the years.”

Jessica Dorrell Photos, Bobby Petrino Scandal Doesn't Derail Arkansas Razorbacks Training

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Jessica Dorrell and Bobby Petrino wreck scandal didn’t derail Arkansas Razorbacks football training this weekend. Jessica Dorrell photos continue to dominate national news as more details surface about Bobby Petrino’s wreck and affair during marriage to wife Becky Petrino. But Razorbacks football practice continued uninterrupted this weekend with the format of that practice continuing reportedly exactly as if Petrino was there.

On Friday, Razorbacks football players took to their field. They also met with local news media. Officials told news that the players are reportedly both confused and bothered about the scandal. They also have an uncertainty about the future for the program in the next few weeks.

Jeff Long was swift to fire Bobby Petrino. But Long has yet to tell news of his anticipated replacement for Petrino. Local news puts Paul Haynes, Tayer Johnson, and Tim Horton among the possible replacements. Haynes is the team’s defensive coordinator, Johnson the assistant head coach, and Horton fulfills multiple positions currently including recruiting coordinator.

Many officials tell news that their relationship with Petrino was purely professional. As a result, the extent to which the scandal erupted into a sea of personal matters – including text messages, gifts, bike rides, and other social interactions – has left many shocked.

Among them was Long. On Friday, Long’s April 10 termination letter to Petrino was released. In it, Long said that the scandal was far bigger than anyone had anticipated. Long claimed the improper conduct, which started as simply lies about a bike wreck, suddenly ballooned.

Soon an affair surfaced, one that dated back to September with thousands of messages being sent by an Arkansas-provided Petrino cellphone to Dorrell. Then there was the improper hiring by Petrino for a job with him, never disclosing her to be his alleged mistress during the process. And finally, Petrino gifted Dorrell twenty-thousand dollars with which she went out and bought a new car.

Long said the scope of the wrongdoing was simply too much. It was no longer just a bike wreck, it was volumes of details. “Your conduct and actions in this matter have generated voluminous negative media stories and opinions, within Arkansas and nationally, that have harmed the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our athletics programs.” He added “We are now faced with the task of restoring the reputation of our institution and our athletics programs that many individuals and teams have worked hard to build over the years.”

Petrino was portrayed by Long as hiding his affair down to the final moment. Long reveals to news that he found out about the affair only minutes before the public did. He said that, not until minutes before the ASP report was issued to news, did Long find out. “Despite having multiple opportunities to inform me that Ms. Dorrell, a current University employee under your direct supervision, had been a passenger on your motorcycle, you waiting until 3:12 on Thursday April 5, 2012 just minutes prior to the public release of the accident report by the Arkansas State Police to tell me.” He added “Again, you actions reflect a deliberate failure to be forthcoming about this matter”.

Long fumed that Petrino only told him details when he had to, when the public would be learning about the same. He stated that “you informed me only when you knew I would learn about it release of the [ASP] report.”

Long didn’t hold back. He said even the bike ride was improper. “In light of the fact that Ms. Dorrell was an employee in the University’s football program at the time of the accident, I believe it was highly inappropriate to take her for a motorcycle ride given your previous … relationship”. He added “You actions reflected poor judgment.”

Long understood that the matter must be handled swiftly. Long even told Petrino that he anticipated that the termination letter would probably be released publicly after Petrino got it. “Due to the compelling public interest in this matter, the University request your sent to release this correspondence to the public immediately. Please call or text me to know whether the University may release this letter to the public immediately.”

Long ultimately told Petrino that he himself was disappointed by what transpired. Long had previously given Petrino a seven year deal, worth roughly three million dollars per year with an eighteen million dollar buyout provision. “I was very excited when we completed your most recent Employment Agreement and I looked forward to a bright future.” Petrino was fired with cause, while Dorrell is currently on paid leave.
