CONFIRMED! Janet Jackson has split with Def Jam. Janet Jackson and Def Jam have ended their dealings. Janet is leaving Island Def Jam records to be a free agent.

The Jackson Def Jam split is no surprise to Janet fans after several months in which Janet said she was unhappy with the label’s handling of her last album.

This is huge news for Janet and also for the music business because now one of its icon is a free agent, and may remain that way, for the first time in 20 years since Control.

Janet’s rep says the following: “Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album “Control”, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system … Janet’s departure from Island makes her one of the first superstar artists to have the individual freedom to promote their work through a variety of avenues such as iTunes, mobile carriers and other diverse and innovative channels.”

Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins tells Rap-Up that Janet’s next album could be with him, or Jimmy Jam or Terry Lewis.

Janet Jackson is launching the Pleasure Principle lingerie line with designer Bruno Schiavi. Janet Jackson’s lingerie line draws its name from her hit song, Pleasure Principle. LALATE has the details.

Pleasure Principle is available for pre-order at jupicorp.com and in retail stores this November in the US, followed by Australia, Japan and Europe.

“People have come to me with other ideas, but lingerie is a passion for me, and just like music and acting, I can’t do it unless I put 100% into it,” said Jackson.

All the items from Pleasure are under $40 with bras sizes from 32A to 44G.

“There’s something for every woman, and that’s very important to us,” Jackson says. “I’ve always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key.”

Jackson hits the road September 10 with her Rock Withchu Tour. That tour starts in Vancouver, B.C.

PICTURE / UPDATE! A major U.S. appeals court ruling this morning on the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. A court just ruled for CBS on the Jackson wardrobe malfunction. The appeals court threw out a $550,000 fine against CBS Corp television stations $550,000 for its broadcast of the flashing of Jackson that happened in the 2004 Super Bowl broadcast on CBS.

The Court found that the FCC acted “arbitrarily and capriciously departed from its prior policy”.

Jackson had her right breast seen by 90 million people that night for a split second. CBS had apologized and paid a fine for each of its 20 stations. But now the appeals court ruled that CBS can’t be held responsible. “Moreover, the FCC cannot impose liability on CBS for the acts of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, independent contractors hired for the limited purposes of the Halftime Show” says Chief Judge Anthony Scirica. What a ridiculous ruling.

Janet Jackson is set to star in her own Reality TV Show. The bigger question - WHY?! Janet Jackson is a major movie actress now after her blockbuster Tyler Perry performance earlier this year. So why would Janet Jackson even think of B listing into television reality formats, and yes, not on network but on MTV?
