Jack Blankenship Face Sign Prompts Alabama Fame

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Jack Blankenship face sign is prompting national news coverage for this Alabama freshman. Jack Blankenship aka Jackson Blankenship created his face sign as a way to digress from the trend of other celebrity signs used in college basketball games. Jack Blankenship headlined the Birmingham news this week during a game at Coleman Coliseum. Now he is dominating ESPN news today.
A photo of Jack glossed the pages of the Birmingham news on Tuesday. And while the picture’s caption didn’t referenced Jack by name, it was enough for national broadcast news to come knocking. His photo was raised high during a shot by Florida’s Patric Young at Coleman Coliseum Tuesday. But by Wednesday evening, he was already getting national news coverage.
Rather than hold up a celebrity’s face during a college basketball game, “I thought it’d be cool to find a way to get a picture of myself and bring it to the games and hold it up,” Blankenship told ESPN. A screen grab of the game is generating nearly seven hundred thousand views.
On Twitter he says he’s been “Publicly embarrassing myself since 1992″. His facial expression, he tells ESPN, dates back to seventh grade. As result “We have, like, thousands of pictures of us doing it.”
For now, the big face want to make big strides as a standup comedian. But it hasn’t been all good news for Jack. He writes on Twitter today that he has “about 20 new Facebook friends, 250 new followers, and zero girls wanting to date me.”
Could Kim Kardashian soon be calling? If her hopes of dating Jeremy Lin don’t pan out, Kardashian’s publicists might soon realize that Jack is the biggest face currently in college basketball, literally.
