Serene Branson Grammys Report Culminates Peculiar Night

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Serene Branson was not hospitalized and did not suffer a stroke last night. Serene Branson attempted to provide a news recap of last night’s Grammy Awards. But after a night of peculiar stage performance and red carpet antics, Serene Branson like many viewers was lost for words. Despite delivering an unintelligible
report that prompted Los Angeles viewers’ concerns, and even incorrect British news reports, Serene Branson was fine, just a bit nervous.

The Grammys have never been known for outlandish antics as bizarre as MTV’s music awards. Last night, the Grammys changed that.

The evening started with Lady Gaga arriving in an egg. News reporters covering the red carpet action were unsure what to call the Gaga-mobile, some calling it a “pod”, others an “egg dress”. And unlike any previous meat dress, this year’s Gaga “outfit” got hatched.

Then there was Cee Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow Grammys duet in which Green appeared in some bird inspired psychedelic creation that seemed to have just raided Elton John’s closet. Muppets provided backup.

The evening ended in a series of big Grammy surprises. Esperanza Spalding beat out Drake and Justin Bieber for best new artist. Spalding told news after her win that “I take this honor to heart so sincerely, and I will do my damndest to make a whole lot of great music for all of you.” Arcade Fire pulled off the biggest win, nabbing Album of the Year for “The Suburbs”, beating out Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

But when the telecast was over, local affiliate CBS2’s turned to Serene Branson to recap the night of bizarre outfits and stunning upsets. She was simply lost for words.

Serene Branson Remains Fine after Grammys Speech

Serene Branson Hospitalized after Grammys Speech

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Reporter Serene Branson is fine after a slurring Grammys speech (video below) last night. CBS2 reporter
Serene Branson was reportedly checked initially by medical personnel following the CBS2 broadcast but has since confirmed that she is fine.

Branson (photos below) appeared live for CBS 2 News Los Angeles, covering the telecast. During the post-telecast recap, a CBS2 studio anchor sent the report to Branson who appeared outside the Los Angeles venue in a full winter’s jacket.

Branson appeared calm, smiling, and apparently fine. But shortly after she began speaking, it was apparent something had clearly gone wrong. With the exception of “very”, not one word in her sentence was intelligible. Branson’s facial reaction changed from smiles to frustration as she realized she was apparently unable to formulate a word.

The DailyRecord.co.uk incorrectly reported that “she may have suffered a stroke”. Instead, it was just a case of the nerves.

As the Daily News has updated , contrary to a news “report from London’s Daily Telegraph that she was hospitalized, Branson may have merely been checked by EMT personnel and sent home with a friend, according to Kristin Cruz, co-host of the Mark & Kristin Show on KOST 103.5 in Los Angeles.”

Esperanza Spalding Upsets Justin Bieber in Grammy Win for Best New Artist

Esperanza Spalding Upsets Justin Bieber in Grammy Win for Best New Artist

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Esperanza Spalding won the Best New Artist award at the Grammys 2011 last night, but it was followed up with a social networking controversy like anything in recent memory. Esperanza Spalding’s win Sunday was nothing unusual for Grammy telecast viewers. For countless times this last ten years the Grammys has hosted major upsets especially in the New Artist Category.

But many of those upsets were far before the advent of Twitter.

Last night, Esperanza Spalding won the category by defeating Drake, Florence and the Machine and Mumford & Sons. But she also defeated one other notable star, Justin Bieber. Within moments, Bieber fan backlash against Spalding swirled on Twitter. But the reactions didn’t remain at only commentary.

MTV News reports that shortly after Spalding’s win, her Wikipedia account was under attack with false edits referencing Bieber. Her middle name was changed to “Justin”. Another line was added that Bieber was robbed of his award. The assaults on the account continued throughout Sunday evening in which one person wrote “who the h-k are you anyway?” And if any doubt as to which fan base was being the biography assault, one line was added “Bieber 4 Lyfe”.

Spalding told news backstage she was very surprised by the win. But in accepting her honor, she graciously told news that the award is not for her but a win for all of the new artists. Bieber, in turn, told MTV “I’m not going to lie, I was disappointed”.

Fans did have good news last weekend. Bieber new film opening virtually first in the box-office.

Janelle Monae, Monocle Wearing B.o.B., and Bruno Mars Shine at Grammys

Janelle Monae, Monocle Wearing B.o.B., and Bruno Mars Shine at Grammys

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Janelle Monae, B.o.B. in a monocle, and Bruno Mars shined at tonight’s Grammy awards (video below). A monocle for B.o.B. (Bobby Ray) won top praise from Grammy fans during Sunday’s telecast. And while another artist made news for egg-hatching during the telecast, Bobby garnered top praise for his far more subtle but inspiring look.

One person tweeted tonight, “quick, someone make a … Twitter account for Bob’s monocle”. But beyond their eye wear, these three Atlantic Recording artists delivered a performance that took down the house tonight at the 2011 Grammys. “One of those moments that only happens right here at the Grammys,” Ryan Seacrest said in introducing the trio.

Bobby Ray entered tonight’s telecast with three nominations. Among them are Record of the Year for “Nothin’ on You”. But for an artist who did most of the album himself, and even wrote the instrumentation for pieces like the French horn and the trumpet, B.o.B’s creativity has long been understood by fans.  “I just want to show people that there are endless possibilities of what you can do” he previously told news.

Tonight he was joined on stage by Monae who delivered a stunning performance of “Cold War” from her album “The ArchAndroid.”

Christina Aguilera Falls during Grammys Aretha Franklin Tribute

Christina Aguilera Falls during Grammys Aretha Franklin Tribute

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Christina Aguilera (video below) fell during the 2011 Grammys Aretha Franklin tribute tonight. Christina Aguilera’s fall was not clearly captured by the Grammys’ broadcast because it happened shortly after one song’s conclusion. While fans tonight are debating whether it was just a slip or a trip, news is reporting that Aguilera clearly fell on stage after the song’s conclusion and while cameras were rolling.

Aguilera gave a stunning performance during the Franklin tribute. She was joined by Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine and Martina McBride. Aguilera performed Ain’t No Way.

But the slip came during the group’s performance of “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.” After the song concluded, the director pulled to a long shot and Aguilera was seen falling backwards. It remains unclear if Augilera’s dress or shoes were to blame.

Ironically, just days ago, Mariah Carey detailed how shoes have caused her to fall many times on stage. Carey’s remarks came during her live HSN interview to promote the sale of her designer shoes. During that HSN broadcast this weekend, Carey explained the difficulty she and other female performers have with shoes on stage. Carey told views that usually female singers are given new heels for each performance. Carey explained she and her stylist always prepare her shoe’s soles before performances to prevent slippage. But Carey admitted many times in her career she has still fallen because the shoes weren’t prepared right for the stage.

Lady GaGa Egg Scrambles Away Meat Dress Controversy

Lady GaGa Egg Scrambles Away Meat Dress Memory

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Lady Gaga’s egg arrival for the Grammys 2011 (video below) scrambled any memory of her meat dress controversy last year. Lady Gaga egg arrival for the Grammy 2011 Awards certainly hard boiled other singers on the red carpet seeking attention. But when Gaga self-hatched herself in a yolk-colored outfit, one thing was clear. This outfit wasn’t going to spoil, literally and figuratively. After news of the egg-arrival struck on Sunday afternoon, it remained throughout the evening one of the most talked about celebrity red carpet arrivals of the yar.

For the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, however, GaGa drew criticism for what fans thought was real meat wrapped around her body. Unfortunately, fan preoccupation with the dress’ shelf-life completely overshadowed Gaga’s message that year. The pop singer recently told news that her outfit was to send a message.

Recently, Gaga told Anderson Cooper that the meat dress was to protest “Don’t ask, don’t tell”. She added “anyone that’s willing to take their life and die for their country is the same. You’re not gay and dead, straight and dead. You are dead… What I was really trying to say was dead meat is dead meat.”

GaGa also told news in 2010 “For me this evening, if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights pretty soon, we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”

This year, gone is the preoccupation with perishable food, and replaced is an outfit with an obvious message that everyone can appreciate. Gaga’s new hit single “Born This Way” encourages people to be happy how they were born. “Cause God makes no mistakes .. I was born this way.”
