Charleston West Virginia Becomes City's Deadliest in Half Century

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Charleston, West Virginia home fire is being called the city’s deadliest fire in a half century. Eight people in a Charleston, West Virginia home died this morning after a slumber party was held in the residential home. Local news reports one person remains on life support.

The death toll stands at eight people, including six children all eight years old. One adult female rushed out of the house at 3:30 am and called local 911. But by then, it was too late.

Local fire officials told Saturday morning news that they have never seen a fire tragedy this horrific. They say it’s the worse for the city in sixty years. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials said the strength and heat of the fire would have prevented any safe rescue.

Charleston Mayor Danny Jones will address national media in a news conference this afternoon. Jones previously told news that the two-story wood frame home on a residential street had only one smoke detector and the detector wasn’t working. Six children and two adults died. Some reports put an adult female and her baby as survivors.

Charleston Assistant Fire Chief Bob Sharp tells news that ten people were inside the home when the blaze erupted and that all ten were related. Locals tell news that the family had celebrated a birthday for one adult last night.

Elizabeth, New Jersey Fire Erupts Near IKEA

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A large Elizabeth, New Jersey fire 2012 is currently burning. The fire today erupted near the local IKEA moments ago. Local news photos of the Elizabeth fire today shows black plumes of smoke spreading across the region and over the Turnpike.

Monday’s Elizabeth, New Jersey fire erupted within the hour, sending black plumes of smoke over drivers during rush hour. Images of the fire does not show traffic slowing. One resident tells news that the “fire [is] besides the IKEA in Elizabeth/Newark.”

In December, locals were shocked after a massive fire erupted inside the old Burry Biscuits warehouse on Newark Avenue. Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage told 1010 Wins at the time “Based on most of the combustibles that have been burned up over the last couple of days, we don’t expect any more intense heat or intense fire”. Bollwage added “It’s typical to believe that this (fire) was not an accident.”

The cause of today’s fire remains under investigation. Fire crews are reportedly on scene. Photos of the fire posted within the half-hour can be seen HERE and HERE.

Place Vendome Fire 2012 Near Ritz Hotel Today Prompts Lockdown

CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Place Vendome fire 2012 near the Ritz Hotel today has prompted an immediate lockdown. The La place Vendôme fire reportedly started in an underground parking structure. The area is currently under lockdown with Rue de la Paix closed.

Shortly before dinner, La place Vendôme was engulfed with smoke. The fire is said to have broken out at 17:00 (5 pm local time) in the le parking souterrain Vinci, an underground parking structure. The fire started when one vehicle caught fire on the second basement floor of the subterranean structure.

Quickly businesses were evacuated as the area went on lockdown. Sixty employees of Axa, Joailleries Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chanel were evacuated.

There are no reports that the first was targeted at the ministère de la Justice (Ministry of Justice). Currently investigators are trying to determine what caused the car to catch fire.

Officials tell news that the fire started in a facility managed by the Hotel Ritz. The structure, reportedly, houses a series of priceless vehicles.

UPDATE: Local news is now reporting that the cause of the fire was a vehicle’s leaking petrol. That has resulted in a perimeter lockdown of 400 meters. Local news is reportedly that several exotic cars have been destroyed. For photos of the fire, click HERE and HERE.

Los Angeles Fire 2012 Alert Grows – Map Depicts Red Flag Warning

Los Angeles Fire 2012 Alert Grows with Red Flag Warning

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Los Angeles fire alerts for 2012 are growing today with newly issued red flag warnings for Southern California (map below). Sections of Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside are under red-flag warnings today. Officials advise news that peak gusts may reach more than 45 mph with relative humidity less than ten percent.

Officials are warning residents to be on alert for possible brush fires across the Southern California region Friday. The alter was issued last night. It remains in place until 6 pm today January 13, 2012 for Los Angeles County. The culprit is strong Santa Ana winds expected to roll into the region.

In Los Angeles County, the most notable region under alert is from the edge of Oxnard to Bel Air through the Santa Monica Mountains. “Humidities have already fallen to between 10 and 15 percent across much of the region,” the Weather Service said in a news statement last night. The Weather Service is especially concerned that winds, with low humidity, could spread in already dense mountain brush. Officials also tell news that, if a fire does erupt, “there could be the potential for large fire growth with rapid fire spread.”

The same alert is in place until 2 pm today for sections of San Bernardino and Riverside counties. No alert has been issued for the weekend. For the latest red-flag warning map, click HERE.

Crestline Fire 2012 in San Bernardino Prompts Road Closures

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Crestline Fire 2012 in San Bernardino is expected to reach full containment this morning. Strong winds fueled the Crestline Fire last night. But officials tell news this morning January 13, 2012 that they expect the fire to been fully contained by breakfast. Road closures, however, remain in place currently.

Officials confirm to the news that the Crestline Fire was the result of an overturned vehicle. Shortly before midnight, a woman on Highway 18 at Panorama Point was involved in a car crash. That crash set brush on fire; thereafter, the fire spread to fifteen acres by midnight.

Nearly four hundred firefighters, however, battled the blaze throughout the night. Those efforts will result in containment by Friday morning. The fire, however, has caused road closures. Highway 18 from State Route 138 below Crestline to 40th Street in San Bernardino is closed this morning. Officials have yet to detail to news when the area will reopen.

Officials confirm that no evacuations were ordered and that no structures were threatened during the blaze. Meantime, LAFD is alerting residents around Los Angeles of high fire warnings through tonight. Those areas include Malibu and sections of the Santa Monica Mountains. Winds are expected as high as fifty mph with humidity as low as ten percent.

In September last year, a Cajon Pass fire prompted the I-15 closure. The Cajon Fire, aka “The Hill Fire”, erupted west of Crestline at the time.
