LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Castaic Fire today May 23, 2013 aka the Fox Trot Fire reached one hundred percent containment moments ago. The Castaic Fire shortly after 2:15 PM PST reached complete containment after spreading to five acres and causing a tense situation for local students.

The Castaic Fire, reported earlier on LALATE today, was given the incident name of FoxtrotIC by LA County Fire. But moments ago, ground crews confirmed to news that they had reached complete control of the fire. The fire’s spread was stopped at roughly five acres, officials tell news.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station tells news moments ago “Parents are being granted access into Live Oak Elementary for child pick up. Only use Hasley Cyn Rd / Cambridge Av / Quincy St #FoxtrotFire”.

This ends a lockdown at the school earlier today. KHTSam1220 had tweeted thirty minute ago “Live Oak Elementary is on lockdown due to the fire near Quincy St in Castaic. Students are safe, according to district officials.” The fire grew from a mere one acre to five acres n only thirty-five minutes. Officials report that two hours of mop-up are anticipated. Cause of the fire remains under investigation. A news briefing is expected later today by officials.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – FoxtrotIC aka the Valencia Live Oak & Hidden Trial Fire 2013 today has erupted moments ago in Castaic, California. Officials are reporting a “Valencia Live Oak & Hidden Trial” wildfire (fire map below) today May 23, 2013 is spreading quickly. Crews are already on the scene.

Los Angeles Fire officials in a news breifing shortly after 1:45 PM PST today reported that a fire has spread quickly in the mountain range. Los Angeles County Fire told news at that time “We are responding to Brush Fire incident in Valencia, Live Oak & Hidden Trail. #FoxtrotIC”. It began to add the hashtag “#FoxtrotIC” to all its media alerts thereafter on Twitter.

It then told news that firefighters are focus on the ground effort currently. “Coordinated Attack* First Alarm Assignment, Crews on the Ground and in the Air. Updated to 1 Acre”.

Meantime @WildfireVOST tells news that the fight is spreading with light winds. “Valencia Live Oak & Hidden trail 1 acre backing towards homes, light winds”.

Bryan Herbert is reporting that local schools are making preparations. “Live Oak Elementary School now checking out students to parents/guardians #FoxtrotIC”. LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The City Heights Canyon Fire 2013 today has prompted evacuation of Crawford High School. San Diego news is reporting that the dubbed City Heights Canyon Fire 2013 is spreading swiftly, being fueled by brush in the area.

Shortly before 2:30 PM PST today, San Diego Fire confirmed the location of the fire. SDFD told news “happening now Brush Fire in City Heights Canyon. 54th St. X University Avenue”. Thirty minutes earlier, 10 News confirmed the same. At the time, the news station told followers on Twitter that the fire had grown to a half acre. “Brush fire burning in a canyon near 54th St. & University Ave. 1/2 acre burned so far, but structure protection requested.”

Just before 2:15 PM, 10 news reported no evacuation orders were in place. “City Heights canyon fire burning near structures, but no evacuation orders issued as of 2:15 PM”. That situation changed fifteen minutes later. Now a school and a local apartment building are under evacuation. Local news is confirming that Crawford High School went on evacuation just around 2:30 PM PST. NBC7 further told news that “students were dismissed early from Crawford HS, remaining staff were evacuated.”

Now UT San Diego is reporting that sixty-five firefighter are on scene assisted with a helicopter doing water drops. “Homes west of the canyon were possibly threatened, said San Diego fire spokesman Maurice Luque.” For continuing coverage click HERE.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Castaic Fire 2013 today (fire map below) has now from a fifteen acre fire to a two hundred fifty acre fire currently. The Castaic Fire today May 17, 2013 is threatening dozens of houses as no containment has been reached. The latest news update on the Castaic Fire was given moments ago by Cal Fire officials.

The Castaic Fire 2013 was at a mere fifteen acres shortly after 2 pm today. But within two hours, the fire had grown in excess of two hundred fifty acres, CAL Fire tells news this afternoon. The fire moreover is prompting massive evacuations currently as well.

Nineteen homes are threatened, LAFD tells news. Those homes are in the fire’s direct path. It began on Lake Hughes Road, on the south side of the 5 Freeway, near Ridge Route Road. By 4 pm the fire was advancing both east and west. Officials are exceptionally concerned that the fire may spread to the south this afternoon near a neighboring community.

The fire is being battled by both ground and water-dropping aircraft support currently. Currently the number one southbound lane on I-5 Freeway is shut down. Traffic is backed up significantly.

UPDATE: KNX news is reporting that the fire is now far in excess of 250 acres. It is also reporting that thirty homes may have already been evacuated, not 19. More than one hundred firefighters are on scene. No homes have been damaged. Unconfirmed reports claim that the fire is not currently prompting any threat to neighboring schools.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Castaic Lake Fire 2013 (fire map below) is growing currently. A fire near Castaic Lake in California today May 17 is shutting down sections of the I-5 Freeway. One structure is threatened. Fire teams are rushing to the location.

In a news statement moments ago, Cal Fire indicates that the Castaic Lake Fire, in the vicinity of the lake, is growing. “New Fire: #LACoFD N 5 at Lake Hughes 2nd alarm IC requesting air tankers, Structure threat on Ridge Route area. This is near Castaic Lake.”

Local news is reporting that two northbound I-5 Freeway lanes have been shut down by Cal Trans. Officials are worried about the fire’s advance currently. Locals are reporting the fie is currently situated between Templin Hwy and Vista Del Lago Rd near Castaic Lake. Other reports that only one lane of traffic has been closed.

Some news reports are indicating that the brush fire is advancing swiftly. Shortly after 2 PM PST today, reports claim that the fire had spread to ten acres.

UPDATE: Officials are now updating news at 2 PM that the fire has grown to roughly forty acres. They now report that only the number one lane on the Southbound I-5 Freeway is closed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. For continuing coverage click HERE.

Highway Fire aka Otay Fire 2013 Erupts in San Diego Today

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Highway Fire aka the Otay Fire 2013 (fire map below) has erupted. The Otay Fire is located east of California 94 and Otay Lakes Rd near Jamul, California, east of downtown San Diego, officials tell news.

Cal Fire tell news that officials are responding to the fire near Otay Lakes Road. The fire has yet to be given an incident name. But Cal Fire implies in its recent tweet that it will be named the “Highway Fire”. It is located east of Otay Ranch, south east of Jamul.

Officials tell news shortly after 2 PM PST today that the fire has spread, fueled by winds and dense brush. “Firefighters are battling a 15 acre fire East of Otay Lakes Road & Hwy 94 (San Diego County) #HighwayFire”, Cal Fire tweeted.

Meantime the Grand Fire was updated by officials shortly after noontime today. Cal Fire says “The fire burned aggressively towards the south and east (Hungry Valley State Recreation Area & Gorman) pushed by strong south winds.” But on Thursday “CAL FIRE Incident Management Team #6 has been activated to manage the fire that is burning in state lands (Kern & Ventura Counties) and adjacent to the Los Padres National Forest.” Road closures are still in place for “Falcon Wy to Frazier Mt High School is closed and roads entering Hungry Valley State Park and Piru Creek.” For continuing coverage click HERE.
