LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Eric Johnson, former NFL 49ers and Saints player, is engaged … to Jessica Simpson! Eric Johnson’s last NFL contract was a one year deal with the Saints in 2007.

While Simpson and Johnson were dating in July, Johnson was not yet officially divorced from his wife.  On Sunday, reps for Simpson confirmed her engagement to the former NFL palayer. Johnson filed for divorce of wife Keri in January this year.

Johnson, out of Yale, was drafted 7th round by the 49ers in the 2001 NFL Draft. Johnson, born 1979 in Needham, MA, stood 6?3? 252 lbs in 2007. He had a career 240 receptions in 2178 yards with an average completion of 9.1 yards and 9 TD. Eric also had 3 fumbles. Eric Johnson was with San Francisco from 2001 to 2005 and with the Saints in 2007.

In his best season in 2004, Eric Johnson  had 82 receptions. The 49ers drafted him seventh round in 2001 out of Yale, he later married Keri Johnson and thereafter divorced.

By July of 2008 he was released and not resigned elsewhere. Eric Johnson career was marked by injuries including one that took him out the entire 2005 season.

Johnson reportedly is a fan of yoga. Simpson herself tweeted June 27 “Shocked my system with a vegan diet, special Pu-erh tea from China and cupping since Friday.”

A source told US Magazine this weekend “Eric was never that successful in the NFL, but he’s always wanted the celebrity lifestyle. ”

Johnson on Thursday did propose to Simpson, says her rep. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz recently said her sister “is so happy, so we’re all really happy.” In October, US Magazine’s source claimed “Eric was never that successful in the NFL, but he’s always wanted the celebrity lifestyle. Her friends do not trust him.”

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Jessica Simpson is not pregnant, but hopes to be pregnant, claims a new report. The latest Jessica Simpson pregnant claims is that Simpson and Eric Johnson hope to have a baby soon; yet when the pregnancy would happen is still not clear.

The latest Simpson twist is nothing new for celebrities. In the latest Enquirer, readers think they are learning that Simpson is pregnant only to discover that Simpson hopes to be pregnant. Kim Kardashian has long perfected the celebrity “hope” news stories, from Kim hoping to be married to Kim even hoping to be pregnant herself.

The basis of the latest claim is that Simpson has allegedly put on 15 pounds in 60 days. Simpson is said to be so happy about becoming a mother in the future that she has started “eating for two” claims the paper. Of course, since Simpson isn’t pregnant, she’s apparently eating for one, not two; perhaps that might explain the alleged weight gain.

And while Simpson might dominate the pregnant celebrity news stories this week, it’s OK! Magazine that has perfected the art of baby news reports.  In April it was “Finally Baby for Jen!” “Jen very much wants to have a baby girl. She had a heart-to-heart with friends and relatives and admitted this is the year she’s going to become a mom.” In June it was “Yes I Am Having a Baby”. “Why Jen’s finally ready now! Who might the daddy be?”

Five months after Aniston’s first “Baby for Jen” cover appeared, Aniston is still not pregnant.

Recently, Simpson’s OK! Magazine cover implied she is exciting to have a baby. She’s not having a baby, at least not for this issue. Simpson is 30, Johnson is 30, drafted by the 49ers 7th round in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Yale.

Simpson does not have a new album out. She doesn’t have a new film being released. But she does have Twitter;  “Romance 101..getting kissed by my Yalie…me not lookin’ so smart…:)” she wrote. “but YUM!” twitted Simpson.

Yet, the cover doesn’t tell you that Johnson filed for divorce of wife Keri in January this year. Yes, the divorce of seven months is not finalized, but Jessica gets a dating-a-married man cover  at the supermarket shelves this week.

Perhaps equally as confusing is Simpson’s OK! Magazine cover that suggests she is exciting to have a baby. Is Simpson going to have a baby soon? No, she’s just excited about having the baby sometime in her life.

Simpson is 29, Johnson is 30, drafted by the 49ers 7th round in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Yale.
