Disneyland Dry Ice Bomb 2013: Christian Barnes Arrested

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Disneyland dry ice bomb explosion 2013 yesterday prompted the arrest of Christian Barnes. A Disneyland dry ice bomb, first reported on LALATE on May 28, prompted closure of ToonTown and evacuation of patrons from that section of the Anaheim park. But police tell news that Christian Barnes is in custody still today.

Christian Barnes has been arrested and is behind held on $1 million bail. Officials would not confirm to news if the dry ice bomb was accidental, intentional, or if any motive was at play. They do confirm that the Christian Barnes is a 22 year old employee of Disneyland. His job title is outdoor vending cast member. They would not specify to news any other details about his employment.

Moreover, in a news statement today, Disneyland would not be specify the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said “We take matters like this very seriously and are working closely with local authorities.” Last night, LALATE first reported a sea of Twitter messages from patrons inside Toontown. They were indicating news of an immediate evacuation after a garbage can explosion.

Officials with the Anaheim Police Department do believe that dry ice was placed into a plastic bottle and then placed into the Toontown garbage can. “Barnes is cooperating with investigators and has indicated this is an isolated incident with unanticipated impacts,” Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said in a news statement.

The Disneyland explosion was reported by park victors shortly after 6 pm PST today. Shawna Gonzales writes moments ago that she “was sitting in Toontown at Disneyland and something exploded in the trash can.” She also tells news that “I felt the sound waves of it and Toontown is closed.”

Superman Action Comics No. 1 Found in Home Insulation Gets Tornl

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Superman Action Comics No. 1 found in a home insulation could have earned millions for homeowner David Gonzales. That was until he got into a fight with his relative over the comic, and the back cover got ripped off.

The famed Superman Action Comics No. 1 has dominated news over the years. Action Comics #1 was published in April 1938 by National Allied Publications. In 2011, LALATE reported news of one owned by actor Nicholas Cage.

Ten years earlier, a copy owned by Nicolas Cage was stolen from his West Los Angeles home. Cage was set to appear in a remark of Superman to be directed by Tim Burton. It remained unclear if that role was Cage’s inspiration in purchasing the rare copy. But in 2000, the Cage copy was stolen and remained missing for a decade.

In 2011, the Cage copy was found inside a storage unit in the San Fernando Valley. At the time, a lesser condition copy was selling for $317,000. In 2010, another copy in better condition sold for $1 million.

David Gonzales tells news today that he found his Superman Action Comics No. 1 inside a small Minnesota home recently. The issue was tucked away inside home insulation. It reportedly was in great condition. That was until David’s relative got into a disagreement and tore the back cover off. David’s copy is now heading to auction in its damaged state. It is expected to get far less than the $2.16 million expected in its previous state.

Disney Pulls Out of Bangladesh and High Risk Countries

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Disney has pulled out of Bangladesh and other deemed “high risk countries”. Disney pulled out of Bangladesh its merchandise operations following the recent factory collapse that left four hundred people dead and the fire that killed more than one hundred persons.

Bangladesh is the latest country that Disney has halted production in. Disney will also pull out of Ecuador, Venezuela, Belarus and Pakistan, by April 2014. “After much thought and discussion we felt this was the most responsible way to manage the challenges associated with our supply chain,” said Bob Chapek, president of Disney Consumer Products, in a recent news statement. Meantime J.C. Penney, Benetton and Sears have urged for improved working conditions in Bangladesh.

Recently, Mohammed Sohel Rana, the Bangladesh factory owner, was arrested. Rana is the owner of the Rana Plaza which collapsed just days ago. Mohammed Sohel Rana was being pursued for counts of negligence, illegal construction and forcing workers to join work. His father has been charged on aiding Rana on the employment count.

Rana was recently arrested trying to flee the country. “RAB arrested Sohel Rana from Benapole frontiers as he tried to flee the country,” state minister for local government Jahangir Kabir Nanak said in a news statement. “The prime minister had promised that those responsible will be brought to justice. She has kept her promise.”

Disney Layoffs 2013 Prompt Silence by Bob Iger

Disney Layoffs 2013 Prompt Silence by Bob Iger

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Disney layoffs 2013 will be announced as early as next week, April 8, claims a series of celebrity news reports today. The latest Disney layoffs however are prompting silence by Bob Iger. Variety and Reuters today are claiming a series of exclusives about a new round of Disney layoffs coming as early as this month. But Disney (NYSE: DIS) is refusing to comment about the anticipated news announcement.

First Reuters claims that two divisions will be hit with layoffs: studio operations and consumer products. Sources tell Reuters that those layoffs will be announced in the next two weeks. The number of employees impacted in each division remains unknown.

Second, Variety claims a slightly different story. It asserts that “home entertainment, production and marketing” will be hit by layoffs. And while Reuters asserts the layoffs will be announced in the next two weeks, Variety claims they will be announced before May 7, when the Mouse reports second quarter earnings.

Iger remains silent about the matter. But reports claim that Iger wants to move away from DVD and move more to Netflix, Apple iTunes, and other digital delivery marketplaces.

The anticipated Disney layoffs are in addiction to the LucasArts layoffs, roughly 150 persons, that were announced on Wednesday. An additional fifty employees were dismissed from Disney Interactive last year.

100,000 Mickey Mouse Poster Delivers Record Sale

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Mickey Mouse poster delivered a record $100,000 sale price this week. Heritage Auctions tells news that the $100,000 Mickey Mouse poster was from a deceased collector’s family. The original owner’s name was not released to news, nor the buyer’s identity.

Grey Smith, director of movie poster auctions at Heritage Auctions, told news today that the poster was “an important piece of pop culture treasure”. The poster released in 1928 prompted a Mickey movie. On it, the poster details the “Mickey Mouse sound cartoon” and calls Mickey “The World’s Funniest Cartoon Character.”

Insiders tell news that there was no other poster produced the following year. In 1930, the posters changed when Columbia Pictures took over film distribution rights for Mickey flicks.

Last year, LALATE reported that a Nicolas Cage owned copy of Action Comics #1, the 1938 comic book that featured Superman for the first time, was found nearly a decade after it was stolen. Those comic book valuations surprised news at the time. Reports claimed that in 2010 a lesser condition copy of Action Comics #1 sold for $317,000. But that same year, another copy in better condition sold for $1 million.
