The Playboy pics of Kelly Bensimon hit newsstands this week after initial belief that they could fall December 2009. And so far, the reaction has bee nothing but lackluster. On the heels of Heidi Montag’s faux spread of 2009, readers are a bit tired of pics that - at least released in preview - look too tame to even appear in Maxim. Why release preview photos of Kelly holding a pillow the size of a small person? It’s sad, a bit embarrassing, and cheats readers.

In the case of Tara Reid, however, it was a winner from the beginning. Tara put her legs up on the chair, put the bunny ears on, and knew what mag she was being shot for. Kelly? It looks like a spread for an interior design fabric magazine. On the cover, she’s wrapped in ribbons, inside she’s holding a pillow. When props get tacky, they ruin the interest. PHOTOS! Pictures of Tara Reid vs Kelly Bensimon will battle for Playboy fans attentions. Tara Reid vs. Kelly Bensimon’s Playboy pic showdown comes this Spring, and by all indications, the results may surprise you.

In winter 2009, Tara Reid’s picture spread hit the net. Kelly’s is this spring.

For Reid, it was the first major spread in a magazine in recent memory. Both Reid and Bensimon have a long history of stunning model shoots.

But then, the noticeable difference. Bensimon is anchored by one of television’s top programs - Real Housewives of New York - while Reid doesn’t have a top movie or film out to drive attention to her issue.

While RHNY is on hiatus, you would think at least that level of exposure would put Bensimon’s spread to the level of attention of a Reid cover? If the lack of substantial net news reports about Bensimon and the avalanche of international attention for Reid is any indication, it goes to show that perhaps a hit tv show’s exposure doesn’t drive the publicity machine as much as we would think.

Earlier in 2009, LALATE first broke news of the Tara Reid issue. Reid shot the pictures inside a private Santa Monica home on October 7, 2009.

The result is incredible. In 2008, Reid said she doesn’t care what people think about how she looks. But let’s just say this cover is amazing.

“I’m not too thin. I go up 10 pounds, I go down 10 pounds. I was thin for a movie that I just finished [Vipers]. Now they’re going to see me and say I’m too fat because I’ve gained 10 pounds… I can’t win!”

In 2008, Reid told OK!

“If I want a glass of wine, I want a glass of wine. I shouldn’t be afraid of it because of what the media might say. Anything you do, you’re screwed. That’s the lesson I’ve learned.”
