R Kelly Makes History with Soul Train Nominations, 2 Chainz Gets Nods

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – R Kelly made history today with the most Soul Train Awards nominations ever. R Kelly inked an outstanding twenty-one nominations this year. He is followed by Usher who picked up five as well. The show which airs November 25 on BET will feature also nominations for Whitney Houston for best gospel inspire performance and for Amy Winehouse for best international performance.
Kelly is nominated for the Ashford & Simpson songwriter’s award and album of the year while New Edition will get a lifetime achievement award. The show won’t be broadcasted live. It will be taped on November 8 inside Planet Hollywood and then aired later that month. Cedric the Entertainer will host.
Notable nominations included 2 Chainz. Officials told news today that 2 Chainz picked up two nods in the same category. In the Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year category, 2 Chainz was nominated for “No Lie” with Drake, and for “Mercy” with Kanye West.
Officials revealed to news today that R. Kelly, with Write Me Back, is up for album of the year against Frank Ocean for Channel Orange, Eric Benet for The One, Nas for Life is Good, and Usher for Looking for Myself.
