Don Mattrick, senior vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, said of Project Natal in a statement moments ago:

“Today with cultural visionaries at our side and controller-free gaming on our horizon, Xbox 360 authored a new page in home entertainment history. For us, this E3 is about breaking down barriers — between generations, between games and entertainment, and most important, between video game players and everyone else — in a way that only Xbox 360 can.”

Project Natal follows user’s movements in 3D by combining XBox360 with a RGB camera. Director and producer Steven Spielberg said at E3 of Natal the following:

“The next step in interactive entertainment is to make the controller disappear. With Project Natal we’ll see games that bring everyone together through technology that actually recognizes us.”

As E3 kicks off at the Los Angeles Convention Center with the Microsoft Press Conference today, Left 4 Dead 2 remains the biggest talk Monday.

IGN describes the setting of Left 4 Dead as follows:

Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of 4 new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these “Survivors” through the southeastern region of the US – from Savannah, Georgia thru the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter.
