LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Diane McDermott, Dylan McDermott’s mother, was murdered by her boyfriend John Sponza, investigators concluded today. Diane McDermott and John Sponza were dating at the time her death; Dylan was just five years old at the time and Sponza was tied to local mafia, police claim. Initially police ruled in 1967 that Diane McDermott’s death was an accident. But in 2011, the actor asked investigators to reopen their investigation.
Today they confirmed to news that Diane McDermott’s death has been now ruled a homicide. They reportedly intend to file murder charges against the late John Sponza. John Sponza was found dead in 1972 inside a parking lot in Waltham, Massachusetts. At the time, place claimed that Sponza was tied to local mafia.
In a news briefing today, Police Superintendent Michael Gugliotti reports that Dylan was a witness to the murder. Gugliotti is angry that for decades Dylan’s testimony was ignored by local investigators.
He told news “Dylan vividly recalls the amount of times, not only flashing the gun, but pointing it at the kid, saying, ‘Shut up and get out of here.’ He’s still probably traumatized by that.”
Police believe that Dylan’s assistance with the case has linked Sponza to other crimes locally. Robin Herrera, Dylan’s sister, tells news that she is content with the findings today. Dylan refused comment on the matter.
