LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – George Jones is dead at 81. Cause of death for George Jones remains pending. Funeral arrangements have not been announced to news.

A publicist for the country singer says that Jones was hospitalized this week. George Jones died today April 26, 2013 inside Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. His rep tells news that Jones had been suffering from a fever and irregular blood pressure.

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – A beloved Oscar winner has died, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Jhabvala won two Oscars for her scripts on Howards End and A Room With A View. Jhabvala was part of the team of Merchant Ivory films.

For four decades, Jhabvala wrote on twenty films for Jhabvala Ismail Merchant and James Ivory. Family members confirm that the German born native , who was lived in India, died this week in New York.

Jhabvala’s film career started from an unlikely route. After moving to India in the 1950s she met Merchant and Ivory. They asked her to adapt her novel The Householder into a film. She agreed. And from there, the team continued to work on films for more than forty years. Decades later, in 1987 and 1993, she won Oscars for her screenplays on A Room With a View and Howards End.

“Ruth Prawer Jhabvala has been a beloved member of the Merchant Ivory family since 1960, comprising one-third of our indomitable trifecta that included director James Ivory and the late producer Ismail Merchant,” said Merchant Ivory’s Neil Jesuele in a news statement today. “The passing of our 2-time Academy Award winning screenwriter is a significant loss to the global film community.”

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Dolphy Quizon is dead at age 83. Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.) had been hospitalized since June. On Tuesday, Dolphy died following a battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dolphy passed inside Makati Medical Center, officials told news.

In a news statement today, former President Joseph Estrada remembered Dolphy as a “very kind and helpful to others.” Zsa Zsa Padilla confirmed news of Quizon’s death to ABS-CBN. Dolphy once said about Padilla “I thank God for having given Zsa Zsa to me”; Padilla said of Dolphy “We have been together for 22 years, he has always kept me inspired”.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Anthony Sedlak is dead at age 29, cause of death remains pending. Anthony Sedlak died Friday evening, family members confirm to news. Officials have yet to release a cause of death for the celebrity chef.

Anthony Sedlak was found dead inside his North Vancouver apartment on Friday shortly after 9 pm. Sedlak had been promoting his newly opened American Cheesesteak Co. restaurant. He was slated to deliver a fleet of new Toronto Don Valley Hotel Suites’ restaurants this year.

Sedlak’s last online presence was June 25 when he was posting to his Twitter and Facebook accounts. Funeral arrangements are set for Vancouver, officials tell news. “The Sedlak family thanks Anthony’s fans and associates for all their love, devotion and condolences,” the family said in a statement this week. “His unexpected and sudden death has devastated his family, friends and the culinary community.”

His family tells news that Anthony collapsed on Friday from an undiagnosed medical condition. Funeral services will be private. Send your love.

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Nora Ephron is dead at age 71. Nora Ephron died today. Cause of death has not been released to news. Ephron was reportedly battling cancer. Earlier today, Liz Smith told the Hollywood Reporter that Ephron was gravely ill. Smith said that Ephron’s son reported that the writer “was dying” but gave no further update about her condition.

Shortly after 5 pm PST today, the Washington Post reported that Ephron had died. The publication put news of Ephron’s death at the top of their front page, but with no further details. The Post simply wrote “Writer, director, producer Nora Ephron dies at 71″.

Ephron is survived by husband Nicholas Pileggi. She married Nicholas in 1987. She was previously married to Dan Greenburg in the late 1960s. The couple divorced in 1976. That same year she married Carl Bernstein. The couple had two children together – Jacob Bernstein and Max Bernstein – before divorcing in 1980.
