LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – From Jermaine Jones to David Hernandez photos, American Idol scandals continue to prompt fan fascination to this day. Jermaine Jones is eliminated from tonight’s American Idol telecast, but shirtless male dancer David Hernandez was able to remain on the series during his own scandal. While FOX continues to battle newer singing reality shows like The Voice, there is nothing that still replaces the fan preoccupation with Idol scandals.
Last year, American Idol wasn’t rocked by a scandal, but producers tried to suggest one. In advance of their February 2, 2011 broadcast, Idol producers told news that Steve Tyler would be making a major announcement. Instead, he was just issuing an apology for his Jack Muck reference.
After a suspense-filled buildup, fueled by tweets and on air radio updates from Ryan Seacrest, American Idol viewers finally found out what prompted American Idol producers, and assuming FOX executives, to issue an apology. In the end, the faux scandal became a ratings draw. “American Idol would like to apologize for last week’s outrageous behavior by Steven Tyler. Mr. Tyler has been warned and assures us it will never happen again.”
Tonight American Idol will have a surprise for viewers, the elimination of one top 12 contestant. Idol didn’t mention him by name in issuing a news statement roughly an hour ago, but Jones has already been sent home. “Tough day for the Idol finalists, as one of the contestants was just disqualified. The finalists were rocked by the news, but are focusing on their performances for tonight. The show must go on, and America will still vote for their favorites.”
In 2008, David Hernandez shirtless dancer photos leaked online during his American Idol season. Executives confirmed that leaked photos of David Hernandez were taken from a male bar in Phoenix. The revelation came from David’s former boss who granted news interviews at the time. But David wasn’t certainly Idol’s first, nor last, scandal. Antonella Barba battled leaked photos of her own.
Joanna Pacitti, in turn, was one of the most memorable contestants eliminated because of previous music work. She reportedly had a prior album on Geffen Records, was Annie on Broadway at age 11, appeared on the Legally Blond album in 2007, and sung one of the songs from the Bratz movie. “I Saw Her Standing There”
Tonight on American Idol David Hernandez (who we told you will go top 2) rocked it with “I Saw Her Standing There”.
The performance was clean. But does this guy ever smiles? He’s so darn serious. I like his voice, a great twang in it. Still it seemed like he has no pipes, at least on this song. Great stage presence.

David Archuleta David Hernandez to Win 1, 2 in American Idol
LALTE NEWS is predicting this morning that by the time everything is over, David Achuleta will be the next American Idol, David Hernandez taking second, and both Davids getting record deals.
LALATE told you first earlier this week.
Boyish good looks and great talent David Archuleta with former stripper and incredible singer David Hernandez appear by all accounts to be exactly where we told you theu would be, the front runners in the entire Idol competition.
The way Los Angeles works is on buzz. The day after the men’s performance, virtually every website was talking about the guys. Not the case for the girls that haven’t sparked a mere mention on any website. But by LALATE’s prediction, Archuleta and Hernandez will go 1 and 2 in the competition and both will get record deals.
5-8 Recap: Who’s the best of David Hernandez, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, and Michael Johns? Hernandez! … then Johns. Archuleta has a great trained voice … but there’s no pipes there.
And the song Hernandez, the former stripper, chose, “All Coming Back To Me Now” … just a bit ironic don’t you think! He was very good, clearly nervous, and even kept his clothes on. Archuleta really was horribly average tonight.
As LALATE said it first, if Hernandez pulls it off … he could take home the entire competition. However the crowd’s applause was polite, at best. He did get lucky with the best song selection perhaps in the night. I personally love the tone in his voice.
(Honestly, Johns is the only one in the finals with any great depth in his voice. But he ended the song HORRIBLY! Went way too high at the end.)
