The surgery is to repair damage to her right shoulder.The procedure involves the shaving the outer end of the collarbone.

Her doctor told CNN: “Dara had surgery in November 2007 to remove bone spurs and repair a partial tear in her rotator cuff. She was doing quite well, but over time she developed this degenerative arthritis problem in the AC joint.”

“There’s immediate relief after the surgery and recovery is quite quick.”

Torres was in the LA Olympics of 84, Seoul 88, Barcelona 92, retired, then Sydney 2000.

“I’m shocked,” said Torres. “I don’t think it’s hit me yet that I made my fifth Olympic team.”

“I was thinking about my father, who passed away a year and a half ago, thinking about my daughter,” Torres said. “I had to sit down for a minute to gather my emotions.”

“I couldn’t see the scoreboard. It was kind of blurry. They need to make the numbers bigger for people my age.”

This time around to train for the 2008 Olympics, Torres does it at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center in Florida under coach Michael Lohberg.

Torres has 4 Golds, 1 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals from 4 Olympic Games already: 1984, 1988, 1992 and 2000.

The events she hopes to qualify for 2008 are sprint free, 50 and 100. The trials are just weeks away in July Omaha, Nebraska. The games are August 8 in Beijing. Torres (who appeared above in Maxim) has a good training group, reportedly as much as 10 under Coach Lohberg could qualify for the Olympics.
