The highly anticipated series on CW premieres Tuesday September 2nd at 8/7c, a two-hour series premiere, with Shannen Doherty returning as Brenda Walsh and Jennie Garth as Kelly Taylor.

Honestly, LALATE is very excited about 90210 (as you can tell by our coverage of the show since day one, breaking you detail by detail).

But will the show be a hit? It’s unusual in tv programming to bring back a show loved by a generation, recapture that audience, while winning a new younger generation at the same time added into the ensemble. It’s a big of a tight rope in programming and definitely for a writer understanding their audience.

LALATE loved the early seasons of Beverly Hills 90210. But later years were simply awful. Where this show will fit in we soon will find out. But one thing is for sure - a zipcode, shots of Rodeo drive, and beautiful people don’t make a show. If it did, Beverly Hills 90210 would have been a ratings hit every season which it wasn’t.

90210 Cast Pictures!

PICTURE! Here are more new photos of the CW 90210 cast. The new photos are stills from the CW 90210 premiere this September.

LALATE was the first to break to you the details of the CW 90210 series. This week, Tori Spelling’s rep confirmed she will not be joining the series. This is amid reports that Tori’s salary would be 1/3 that of Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty. Since then Garth has come out and said that Spelling should get equal pay.

These new pictures released today of the cast are nothing special. Part The Hills, part Gossip Girl; it just all starts to look the same.

The big test will be the casting. Shows like this are driven by story line and casting. The original Beverly Hills 90210 slipped in later years of ratings because of a direct change in storyline that took the show in a direction not favored by show fans.

Kelly Taylor KID, Brandon or Dylan the DAD!

Kelly Taylor has a KID! Kelly Taylor got pregnant, had a kid, and the dad could be either Brandon or Dylan! Oh and Kelly is dating the lacrosse coach Ryan Matthews at West Beverly Hills. That is what 90210 viewers will see in the new CW series this fall.

Kelly Taylor will have a kid in the new CW 90210 says an online report this weekend. Let’s hope it’s not a girl.

Reports claim that father will be Dylan or Brandon but that revelation may not come out in the storyline, at least not yet. Tori Spelling joins Jennie Garth and Shannon Doherty in the new CW 90210.

To date, producers have confirmed their appearance will be not leading but not be a cameo.

LALATE senses that Garth could initially get the most air time since she was the first to sign on and Spelling has confirmed she was not ready to shoot the pilot because of her recent baby birth.

90210 Picture!

PICTURE! Here’s a August photo of the new CW 90210. The first CW picture didn’t have Rob Estes, since casted. The second CW picture only featured the younger cast members. This new CW photo is just, well … bad!

Tristan Wilds looks great. Tristan is dead center in the photo smiling. So why is Tristan smiling and the rest of the cast look like they are about to steal your Dallas oil well, or cheat you out of Dynasty real estate? Most everyone else in the photo looks serious, dark clothes, boring.

This picture is in stark contrast to CW 90210 picture number 2, the one in the pool that featured Michael Steger, Dustin Milligan, AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup, Tristan Wilds and Shenae Grimes. For that picture, CW said: “One of our primary goals in developing a campaign is to match the marketing to the personality of the individual show, so ‘90210’ will have its own unique look and feel, as does ‘Gossip Girl,’ and ‘Privileged’ and ‘Top Model”.

CW executive vice president of marketing Rick Haskins continued. “For the ‘90210’ campaign, we’re using a lot of vibrant colors and natural sunlight to give it a Southern California appeal to communicate a fun, inviting atmosphere that will appeal to our target audience.”

Sorry, where is the vibrant colors in this picture? The Southern California appeal? If it wasn’t for the palm tree in this picture, you would never think of Beverly Hills from this photo.

CW 90210!

NEW PICTURE! CW has just released a new photo of the cast of CW 90210. This second cast picture of “90210″ premiering this fall comes with a CW explanation of what viewers should look forward to.

CW already produces the similar demographic-driven-drama Gossip Girl. But CW is making clear that 90210, on the other coast, will get a whole different approach.

The ‘90210′ picture above features cast members, from left to right, Michael Steger, Dustin Milligan, AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup, Tristan Wilds and Shenae Grimes.

“One of our primary goals in developing a campaign is to match the marketing to the personality of the individual show, so ‘90210’ will have its own unique look and feel, as does ‘Gossip Girl,’ and ‘Privileged’ and ‘Top Model,” CW executive vice president of marketing Rick Haskins said in an issued statement. “For the ‘90210’ campaign, we’re using a lot of vibrant colors and natural sunlight to give it a Southern California appeal to communicate a fun, inviting atmosphere that will appeal to our target audience.”

CW could have a lot of cast member jealousy shooting a show with a cast this large. The number of members in this photo is dramatically less than the previous cast photo. It also doesn’t feature new cast members, and returning Beverly Hills 90210 cast members, added since the previous photo was released.

LALATE is really looking forward to this new series. But online, the sentiment has been very mixed with many questioning why a classic property is being recreated, at all, and why all the cast members that people loved, or loved to hate, are not returning.

CW 90210

Brenda is back at 90210. Shannen Doherty will be joining the CW 90210, the new spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210 first profiled here on LALATE. “Shannen Doherty will be returning to 90210″, Gabe Sachs, executive producer said at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday.

Doherty will return as Brenda Walsh, the character she played for four seasons on the original show. Doherty will play a “visiting drama teacher”.

Drama? How ironic!

Walsh will direct a musical at the West Beverly High. As of yet, it is unclear if Brenda’s part will be a series regular. Jennie Garth was the first to return to the show. Garth will be a reocurring character as counselor Kelly Taylor. Tori Spelling is signed on as Donna Martin but not in the pilot due to her child’s recent birth.

How many episodes Spelling, Garth and Doherty will appear in? “They will be in multiple episodes”.

Wonder how the new cast likes all the press attention on the original cast jumping in and out of the show, not on them? They are going to have to reshoot that cast picture!

CW 90210 VIDEO Cast

NEW! A second CW 90210 Video has been released.

LALATE first broke several months ago the online details about the new CW 90210 airing this fall.

This last week, we told you that the new show is set to retain the 90210 name in its title as a spinoff from Fox’s 1990s series “Beverly Hills 90210″.

But initial fan reaction to the cast has been negative.

Will that change now? Today in this new clip you can see the cast upfront with the exception of Rob Estes just added.

What do you think about the cast?

LALATE’s feeling — decent. Some of the cast is very hot with lots of personality. But these youtube promotions are very tacky. The moment a tv show tells me it’s cool, I don’t want to watch it.

Just count how many times in this video a cast member or the narration says “cool”.

Note to CW: stop trying to push “coolness” factor down your viewers’ throat. Just make the show cool, and viewers will decide.

And honestly, someone needs to remind CW … this is not the 1980s. Shopping on Rodeo is not “cool”, it’s just flossy. Shopping on Melrose, underground shops, silverlake, private warehouses - that’s cool.

Just released this weekend is the CW 90210 premiere / trailer video. What makes this CW 90210 Video a surprise … is the title that appears in the video!

For weeks, CW’s production (first development, then series commitment) for the spinoff of Fox’s 1990s series “Beverly Hills 90210″ had one thing missing …

… a TITLE!

In fact, for weeks, the turn “spinoff” was reported as being loosely used.

But tonight the surprise. The CW video refers to the new series as being called “90210″.

Is the series a spinoff, or merely the return of the show itself with a new cast?

Rob Estes 90210 CW

CONFIRMED!

Rob Estes will be the dad on the CW 90210.

Actor Rob Estes WILL be joining the cast of CW’s spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210 following widespread bloggers calling for him to be cast as the show’s father.

90210 CW details were first broke by LALATE NEWS in its tv broadcast of the LALATE MINUTE. Since then Jennie Garth has been confirmed (reocurring), and Tori Spelling rumored (reoccuring). The mother role was quickly cast by former Full House’ Lori Loughlin. But who as her husband?

Reports suggested the show, since green-lighted for a 2008 fall broadcast, had problems finding the right actor to play the dad part opposite Loughlin.

Many writers proclaimed Rob Estes, the former Melrose Place star, as the best choice. And just like that, everyone’s online wishes came true!

Estes will play Harry Mills, the principal of West Beverly High.

Tori Spelling is confirmed to join the CW 90210!

Tori Spellling will join the Beverly Hills 90210 spinoff on the CW LALATE can report.

LALATE first reported back in April that Spelling, daughter of series original creator Aaron Spelling, could be joining the series, featuring Spelling in that week’s news broadcast of the “LALATE MINUTE”. Now online reports confirm Spelling will reprise her character Donna Martin for the series spinoff giving the green light by the CW just last week. LALATE told you that the CW is a bit of a mess. For it claim that its CW 90210 spinoff is a spinoff, it must return characters. A series that merely returns to a location and repeats common script elements is NOT a “spinoff” but an “adaptation”.

The adding of Jennie Garth last week inked the possibility of spinoff. But who is Kelly Martin going to talk to in the show? Where are all her former BH friends? Hence the logic of bringing back Donna Martin also.
