
CORAL GABLES (LALATE) – The Bowl games 2011-2012 schedule prompted renewed BCS rivalries Sunday. The complete bowl games lineup was revealed during a live telecast Sunday evening. But in looking at the schedule, many college football news analysts, in the words of Yogi Berra, were feeling a bit of déjà vu all over again. Some news analysts were critical of many of the selections. Some schools were disappointed by the news. But many of the leading bowl games were announced much as anticipated.
On Sunday, college football fans were glued on the announcement of more than thirty showdowns. In the end, the 2011-2012 bowl games schedule is enough college football viewing excitement for fans to never leave their living room sofa this holiday season. Earlier in the schedule, some days have three games. But later on, after the New Year, expect as many as seven bowl games in a single day.
The Allstate BCS National Championship Game will feature No. 1 LSU vs. No. 2 Alabama taking to the field at New Orleans Louisiana Superdome on January 9. In the days before the National Championship game, college football fans will get only one bowl game per day. On January 3, the Allstate Sugar Bowl has invited Michigan to battle Virginia Tech at the Louisiana Superdome. The next day will be the Discover Orange Bowl from Miami’s Sun Life Stadium. On Sunday, they confirmed news of a West Virginia – Clemson showdown.
Kansas State vs. Arkansas will head to Cowboys Stadium, a lineup confirmed to news by the AT&T Cotton Bowl officials last night. Then, the Compass Bowl in Birmingham will feature a stellar showdown with SMU taking on Pittsburgh. Finally, the last game before the National Championship is the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Last night they confirmed news of an invitation to Arkansas State vs. Northern Illinois.
There are no games on New Year’s Day. But on January 2, six games were confirmed to news last night. The Cotton Bowl will host Houston and Penn State. The Outback Bowl announced news that Michigan State will face Georgia. The Capital One Bowl has invited two powerhouses to the Florida Citrus Bowl, Nebraska and South Carolina.
Additionally, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl confirmed news of a Stanford – Oklahoma State lineup. The Gator Bowl should not be missed with Ohio State taking on Florida. And the Rose Bowl will be incomparable, with Wisconsin trying to win against Oregon.
After Christmas, the bowl game schedule slows down. Officials confirmed to news that initially fans will get one bowl game per day. But as you get closer to New Year’s Eve, the schedule picks up again. On December 26, Independence Stadium will host the Independence Bowl, confirmed to news as Missouri and North Carolina. The next day, you have two games with the Belk Bowl and the Little Caesars Bowl. The Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl and the Military Bowl will kick off on the 28th with Toledo vs. Air Force and Louisville vs. NC State confirmed to news. The following day is the Valero Alamo Bowl and Armed Forces Bowl followed by the Pinstripe, Music City Bowl and Insight Bowl. But the heated scheduled is definitely New Year’s Eve.
The Meineke Bowl announced news last night that the Texas A&M vs. Northwestern lineup will head to Reliant Stadium. The Hyundai Sun Bowl confirmed news of Georgia Tech vs. Utah will also play that day. The Liberty Bowl selected Cincinnati to battle Vanderbilt. Also that day, UCLA fans are heading to San Francisco. Illinois vs. UCLA is the announced lineup for the Fight Hunger Bowl. Finally, the Georgia Dome is expected to be sold out for the stellar showdown for the Chick-fil-A Bowl of Virginia and Auburn.
Bowl games kick off on December 17 with the New Gildan New Mexico Bowl, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and the R+L Carriers New Orleans. Before Christmas, officials confirmed to news four more bowl games. The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl has selected Nevada and Southern Miss. The MAACO Las Vegas bowl will feature Arizona State vs. Boise. Rounding out the season is the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl and the S.D. County Credit Union Poinsettia bowl.
