ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Two Chile earthquakes today have struck Bolivia and Argentina as well. The Chile earthquakes today May 12, 2013 erupted moments apart from each other but fostered different epicenters. No reports of injuries have yet to be detailed by local news.

The first Chile earthquake began shortly after 8:51 am local time today. It posted a deep epicenter, however. Officials tell news that the quake started eight-one miles below ground level. As a result the quake was felt only around immediate area.

Officials tell news that a 5.4 magnitude Chile earthquake today started minutes ago at 11:39 am local time today. The quake however had virtually no depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake started only nine miles below ground level. As a result, it could be felt across the region.

USGS indicates to news that quake struck in a remote section of the country. The quake was forty-six miles east of Diego de Almagro. It was eighty-eight miles southwest of Taltal and one hundred miles east of Copiapo. The quake also started northwest of Tinogasta, Argentina and roughly five hundred miles north of Santiago.

Earlier this year, in January, a 4.4 magnitude temblor struck seventy-three miles southwest of San Pedro de Atacama. The quake also began seventy-five miles southwest of Calama and seventy-eight miles east of Antofagasta. Also that month, 6.7 magnitude posting a nominal depth struck the region, officials tell news. The quake was only sixteen miles below the earth’s surface.

Officials tell news that a 4.6 magnitude Chile earthquake today struck on Bolivia border. The quake began at 9:14 am local time today. But it posted a substantial depth. USGS indicates to news that it started sixty-one miles below ground level. As a result the quake was felt across only the immediate vicinity.

In related news, a strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake erupted late last night off the coast of New Zealand. The quake however was far out to sea. Officials report that a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands last night. The quake however had a substantial depth, striking more than two hundred miles below sea level. It was roughly six hundred miles south of Tonga and two thousand miles from French Polynesia.
