Amy Schumer Ryan Dunn Joke Angers Viewers of Charlie Sheen Roast

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Amy Schumer’s Ryan Dunn joke is being defended by some viewers of the Charlie Sheen roast midday Tuesday. But last night, Amy Schumer was under fire for her remarks; many viewers were furious by the joke, calling it not funny and nor appropriate. Don’t tell that to Schumer’s fans, and some of Ryan Dunn’s fans, who today are coming to the comic’s defense.
Monday night’s television attention was suppose to be on the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. But based upon ratings from last night, it wasn’t. Viewers instead were turning into the Charlie Sheen roast and his character’s death on Two and a Half Men.
By evening, the biggest subject on Twitter, however, was not Chaz Bono’s dancing or the Two and a Half Men premiere. Rather it was a “punch” of Steve-O by Mike Tyson and a joke by Amy Schumer. What did Amy state? When referencing the death of Ryan Dunn, Shumer said that Steve-O must have been thinking “it could have been me” and everyone else was thinking “why wasn’t it?”

The joke made headline news last night after nearly a thousand viewers were commenting about the remark’s appropriateness. By midday today, however, fans of the comic and even fans of Ryan Dunn are defending the remark. “She did exactly what she should have done on that roast” said one viewer, calling the criticism of the joke simply “selective outrage”.
The comic has yet to comment about the telecast on her twitter account by midday Tuesday. But she did tell fans last night “Put on comedy central immediately. It’s the least you can do #sheenroast it’s time!” Many viewers thought that Ryan Dunn would have approved of the joke; other said the joke was neither controversy nor in bad taste. “Amy Schumer didn’t “cross the line” with the Ryan Dunn joke, it just wasn’t funny.”
But criticism was split last night and today. Many felt the subject of the death was not appropriate since drinking and driving killed Dunn and his colleague. “I can’t believe Amy Schumer tried to make a joke about Ryan Dunn. So messed up” wrote one viewer. “I know it’s a roast but that Ryan Dunn joke was a bit much.”
Some viewers were troubled about the backdrop of the joke. West Goshen Police Chief Michael Carroll told news in June that Dunn was more than two and half times the legal limit, driving a .196, at the time of his death. Ryan Dunn’s crash took not just the actor’s life but also the life of his passenger, production assistant Zachary Hartwell. Chester County Coroner’s Office ruled the two died of a blunt force trauma and resulting fire.
During his crash, Dunn lost control of the Porsche, sending it to the right, hitting the guard rail. The rail did not support the impact. The rail was ripped off its structural base of piles. Dunn’s Porsche went airborne, over the barrier, into thick brush of trees and foliage. The vehicle burst into flames. When a tow truck service arrived, all that was left were mere fragments of the Porsche.
Beyond Dunn’s appearances in Jackass, Dunn also appeared in Blonde Ambition (opposite Jessica Simpson) and Law and Order SUV. He was currently working on “Proving Ground” for the G4 Network at the time of his death.
