ATLANTA (LALATE) – Bishop Eddie Long’s scandal (photos below) came as no surprise to Cadillac Kimberly (aka Cadillac Kim), the 38 year old from Atlanta. While the Bishop Eddie Long scandal revealed by the lawsuits of three young men has shocked a nation, and has evoked questions of faith, Cadillac Kimberly’s reaction on a local level has been captivating online reaction since the news story broke. Jamal Parris, Maurice Robinson and Anthony Flagg were held openly to members of the congregation, hand selected as Eddie Long’s “sons”. Their appearance was known for years, claims the three lawsuits. Yet did that cause parishioners to question anything?
The lawsuits claim that the middle age pastor was openly associating himself with young men, flying them around the world to beach resorts with him, putting them on payroll, and giving the latest GM models. Since then, plaintiffs’ attorney has released scandal pictures taking by Bishop Eddie Long for the men, two muscle flexing lyrcra wearing pictures taken on a cellphone in a bathroom. The pictures don’t prove anything, says Long’s attorney.
But before even these pictures, did others suspect anything wrong? “Many of the Defendant Long’s victims are known throughout the Church as Spiritual Sons of Defendant Long” says the three individuals’ lawsuit. The lawsuits assert others knew about the beach vacations, free cars, and payroll.
But did any question the situation? Yes, says Cadillac Kimberly (aka Cadillac Kim). Of herself, she writes on myspace “I”m very Spiritual … a lot more spirtual than some of those … in my church”. Kimberly says “If you go to his church you are ignorant. You don’t know annointing. [Bishop Eddie Long] don’t speak with annointing, he don’t speak with no authority.”
Kimberly admits some parishioners have called news reports of the allegations as bogus and have quickly defending Eddie Long through his bishop scandal. Local news received statements of support from Eddie Long’s congregation when the scandal broke. But Kim says “I’m not your pastor, okay, I’m just the informant… CNN had a story which I read and I believe ever word for word.”
Gifts, beach vacations, trips to Australia and the Bahamas, and brand new cars all given to the boys were not hidden from other church members. And how about those pictures taken in muscle shirts and lycra spandex bike shorts featuring a bishop flexing in a bathroom on his cellphone for young men? That is a positive thing, an image of good health, says the bishop’s attorney.
Craig Gillen said of the pictures to V-103’s “Frank And Wanda Morning Show” “The photos don’t corroborate these charges. [Bishop Long] is a health advocate, he’s a weight lifter. He’s a fella, who’s gonna go to work and he’s gonna have on a muscle shirt. And you know he may show up in church in a muscle shirt. There’s nothing really in those photographs that seems to me corroborative of these allegations.”
One plaintiff got a Mustang, another got a Chevy Malibu. Did this prompt any questions by Church members? “A number of people travel with Bishop” said the Bishop’s rep this week. Kimberly says “What is the emergency, we all ready knew that.”
The Bishop’s rep said Eddie Long is “someone who helped them like numerous individuals and families in tough situations.” Not so says Robinson. Robinson’s lawsuit asserts that when he approached his Bishop for faith, for guidance, and for comfort upon the passing of his closest friend, all he got was a guy wanting to get him into bed.
In fact, the lawsuits each claim the boys were deceived by the Bishop. The boys assert that they were coerced by notions of the Scriptures, by the position of their Bishop, and believed his allegedly evoking the words of the Bible as true. These were acts of a “false prophet” claims Kimberly (on youtube @MsKaf1).
And while a community is split, a nation left in shock, and three boys allegedly hurt, the Eddie Long scandal for Kimberly is proof to formulate one’s one thoughts. Even in adversity, one’s faith, and clear thought, according to Kimberly, will help people overcome troubles. “Even through Chanel shades I can see the light.” “Don’t accept everything that is told to you….I pray that you be enlightened.”
