Mayweather vs. Cotto Boxing Fight Results Prompt Floyd Mayweather Win

Mayweather vs. Cotto Boxing Fight Results Prompt Floyd Mayweather winner Win who won the fight tonight

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Who won the boxing fight tonight? Floyd Mayweather is the winner of tonight’s Mayweather vs. Cotto showdown. Mayweather vs. Cotto boxing results for May 5, 2012 ended with Floyd Mayweather winning, not just another bout, but also a new record with the largest payday guarantee in boxing history. Miguel Cotto was no match for Floyd Mayweather in tonight’s HBO boxing fight. But unlike the Victor Ortiz fight dominating boxing news last year, Mayweather tonight gave fans his best fight since his showdown against Shane Mosley two years ago.

Mayweather vs. Cotto returned to a familiar slot that Floyd Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions have perfected, a Las Vegas MGM Grand fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend. And yet, after months of anticipation for a Mayweather Pacquiao fight for May 5, Floyd still delivered a strong show tonight along with an exceptional undercard spectacle.

But still, the fight of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao remains in doubt. Will Floyd and Manny ever fight, why haven’t the two been able to ink a fight deal, and can the two continue to progress through the sport without facing each other?

First, investors are reportedly in place for a Mayweather and Pacquiao fight to happen. Bob Arum has told news “There are a couple of investors who want to put up a lot of money to do the fight. So we are exploring how real it is. The investors know Mayweather.” He added “They met with us at my house and they told Michael that they were going to see Mayweather and that Roger Mayweather would meet Michael outside the gym and take him in to meet with Mayweather.”

Second, Pacquiao in his own words has assured news that he wants to fight Floyd. Mayweather, however, has repeated told news that Pacman doesn’t want to fight him. Claiming that Pacquiao would be afraid to lose, Floyd has said it’s Pacman, not him, who hasn’t signed up to fight.

Not so says Pacquiao. At a recent Congress at the Resorts World Hotel and Casino, Pacquiao told news “Hopefully, the next fight, is Mayweather … however, I am not saying it will push through.” Of course, it never happened. This weekend’s fight was originally anticipated to be “Mayweather Pacquiao”, not “Mayweather Cotto”.

Third, Pacquiao’s inner circle assures news that they are interested in fighting Floyd. Floyd disagrees and tells news that Pacman and his team is allegedly not being truthful. Freddie Roach has told news that the world demands the fight to happen and that Roach wants to see it happen. “I think it would be the best fight in the world and I would love to see it”.

So really, what has caused the Mayweather Pacquiao fight to not happen? Unfortunately, both camps have accused each other of fabricating excuses. And yet, there is a host of key issues, however, that one side says they want addressed and the other is not responding to.

First, Floyd says he wants the Pacquiao fight to happen in the MGM Grand. Arum says he doesn’t want that. Arum has consistently told news that he has no intention of Pacquiao inking a deal that does not encompass all possible revenue streams. Among them, Arum tells news, is a larger venue.

Arum has told news that he wants a temporary venue built that would have a larger live audience than inside the MGM Grand. Arum also tells news that there is a time frame in which to build the temporary structure, that it can’t be constructed overnight.

Second, Mayweather has said that Pacman is already losing in his mind. But Floyd is interested in fighting. After the Ortiz win last year, Mayweather showed no interest in Pacman. “And as far as Manny Pacquiao we said what we had to say about that in the beginning on the phone and there’s nothing else to be said about the situation. If you’re the best, take the test, and we leave it at that.” But by November 2011, Floyd suddenly wanted Pacman. “He lost to Marquez three times. May 5 is the date, sign the contract, I’m waiting.”

Mayweather contends that fights like Ortiz and Cotto helped him. After the disappointment of Ortiz, fans disagreed. Mayweather told news “It’s good for my fans and the people that like to come to entertaining fights and big shows to come out and see me and support me”.

And yet, many fans contend that these are two fighters who simply aren’t happy with fifty million dollar paychecks for one fight, and want one hundred million paychecks.

Mayweather consistently brags about how lucrative his deals are, and Arum consistently tells news that he wants the best deal for Manny. “We’re working on trying to make that a reality. But you have to understand that this isn’t the kind of fight you make in 15 minutes. It doesn’t work that way. It takes time, and my obligation is to get Manny the best deal possible.”

And yet, Mayweather and Arum have never completely told news what is holding up a fight deal. Among the suggestions are PPV numbers. Mayweather has told news that PPV residuals are a sensitive topic. In 2011, Mayweather told fans that, when news reports indicate how much money he is paid for each fight, that amount is just his first check from PPV. Mayweather said that the amount cited is just for the first broadcast.

Mayweather told news that PPV continues to pay, for each fight, each month, for years to come as the fight is rebroadcasted worldwide. Mayweather claimed that the big money is the residuals on PPV that a fighter continues to earn for the rest of their life, not just the fight-night paycheck. Floyd also stated he allegedly knows the details about PPV future checks since he gets the checks directly from PPV and sees the amounts himself. “When I do PPV, I keep all the money. The checks come in for years.”

But still, there is no deal, and little hope for a deal. As Arum said in December 2011, “Hopefully, we’ll be able before the new year to bridge that gap and make that fight happen.” And yet, the fight just doesn’t happen.

Mayweather vs. Cotto Boxing Fight Tonight 2012 Prompts Record Payday Results

Posted: May 5th, 2012 in Boxing, Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto by LALATE

Mayweather vs. Cotto Boxing Fight Tonight what time does the mayweather fight start tonight

ST LOUIS (LALATE) – The Mayweather vs. Cotto boxing fight tonight 2012 has already prompted record payday results for Mayweather. With start time already underway for the boxing fight tonight’s undercard bouts, Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto are already in the record books. Tonight’s May 5, 2012 boxing fight has been confirmed to news by Nevada officials as boasting the highest guarantee in boxing sports history. Mayweather when he takes to the ring tonight will get a guarantee of at least thirty-two million dollars to fight Miguel Cotto, despite whatever results occur.

Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer confirms to news that Mayweather will get at least thirty-two million dollars, breaking the previous guarantee paid to Mike Tyson. Tyson earned a guarantee for the thirty million fight against Evander Holyfield in 1997, the fight in which Mike bit part of Holyfield’s ear off. Cotto will get an eight million dollar guarantee tonight to fight, en vivo, on PPV.

But for boxing fans, some items haven’t changed. What time is the fight tonight, what time does the fight start, and what channel is the Mayweather fight on? Nothing has changed for Mayweather in the last two years. On a Cinco De Mayo weekend, Floyd is back in the same venue, the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tonight’s boxing fight is on the same cable TV channel again, HBO PPV. The fight has the same start time of 9 PM EST with undercard fights at 6 PM EST. And Mayweather is dominating news predictions to win tonight, as he defends his junior middleweight title challenge against another competitor. The only thing that has changed is his opponent: Miguel Cotto.

But as fans await the Mayweather vs Cotto fight tonight, there is far more at play.  There is a mixture of unanswered issues with Manny Pacquiao. There is an upcoming jail time for Mayweather for the Josie Harris abuse photos and conviction. And there is the debate whether Mayweather will go down in history this decade as one of the highest grossing sports athlete.

Two years ago this week, Mayweather made news with a $22.5 million guarantee against Shane Mosley. Mayweather, understanding his draw among different demographics, has consistently booked his fights on Cinco De Mayo weekends. But while he earned a twenty-five million guarantee against Victor Ortiz, Mayweather’s results against Ortiz did not guarantee him critic’s respect. The Mayweather vs. Ortiz fight was embarrassing.

Tonight, news analysts expect Mayweather vs. Cotto to end with Mayweather the winner. And while he is teamed up with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions tonight, Mayweather will still not sell 2.5 million subscribers for PPV, the record last set by Oscar and Floyd in their 2007.

Yet, Mayweather won’t admit several items have changed since last year. The first is the Josie Harris case. Floyd Mayweather will begin his jail sentence in June. Josie Harris (photos below) and Floyd Mayweather allegations headed to a Las Vegas courtroom in 2003. Mayweather faced felony battery charges at the time. Harris later retracted her testimony. But in 2010, Harris was victimized by the boxer.

She told police “Not too longer after the police left, [Mayweather] knocked on my son’s bedroom/ bathroom door to be let in and my son did. At this time I did not know he was in the house standing over as I slept on the couch.”

Harris claimed that Floyd punched her and threatened to break her arm and kill her. She told her kids to run for the community’s security gate, but claimed Mayweather threatened to beat the children if they called police or ran away. Harris claimed the children didn’t listen to their dad, ran for it, only to be chased by Mayweather allowing Harris to escape herself.

She told police “My kids heard me screaming and yelling for help as I screamed to tell them to call 911 or run out the house to the security gate to get help.” She added “He yelled fiercely at the children as he continued to beat me in front of them that if they ran or tried to call the police he would beat them the same way. I kept yelling and crying to please run run run out and get help.”

Tonight’s fight wasn’t changed despite Mayweather’s conviction. He was initially ordered to serve 90 days in jail and to surrender by January 6, 2012. But the court changed its position, ruling that Mayweather may turn himself in on June 1, 2012.

The other item that has changed is Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather and Pacquiao have certainly hinted about a fight together since 2010. But in December 2011, they told news that tonight’s fight would be Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao on May 5, not Pacquiao vs. Peterson, nor Mayweather vs. Cotto.

But soon, Manny Pacquiao’s camp including Freddie Roach were telling news that a Mayweather fight wasn’t desired. Fans disagreed. Roach told news “I think that Lamont Peterson is a great opponent for Manny Pacquiao if the Mayweather fight doesn’t happen, in my opinion. That is, if Lamont really doesn’t want to take the fight with Amir Khan.”

Roach told news that he was only slightly “interested” in Mayweather, and quickly uses Mayweather’s short jail time a reason not to pursue any 2012 fight date. “There’s other fights out there, yes, but the thing is, we are interested in Mayweather.” He added “If that can’t happen because of Mayweather’s issues, then that would be very disappointing.”

While it remains unclear how Cotto prepared for tonight’s fight, Roach told news that it’s hard for any boxer to prepare for a fight against Mayweather. “I will bring in a whole new crew of sparring partners, guys that can imitate Floyd well. There isn’t a lot of guys in the world that are like Floyd, so it would be tough to find them,” Roach tells abs-cbnnews.com. “We would prepare for his counter punching ability, and his speed, which is maybe equal to Manny’s, if not better.”

And while Mayweather vs. Cotto is expected to end with Mayweather as the winner, Roach contends he knows what it takes to defeat Floyd Mayweather. “I think we can take advantage of those [bad Floyd boxing] habits “. He added “He does have some bad habits that can be exposed.” But that exposure won’t happen tonight.

How much will Mayweather make tonight? It all depends on the PPV sales. Mayweather is expected to earn in excess of one hundred million tonight. In 2010, Forbes reported news that Mayweather’s previous twelve month earnings surpassed $65 million. During the same period, Tiger Woods earned $105 million. Mayweather’s paychecks at the time came from the Juan Manuel Marquez fight ($25 million) and the Shane Mosley fight ($40 million). Tonight’s fight airs tonight on tv channel HBO, in PPV, with undercard fights starting at 9 PM EST.

Burns vs. Moses Results Tonight Give Ricky Burns Unanimous Win

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Burns vs. Moses 2012 results tonight gave Ricky Burns the unanimous win. The fight of Ricky Burns vs. Paulus Moses went to the cards tonight with Burns earning a commanding win, officials revealed to news moments ago. The twelve round fight was delivered live in Glasgow, Scotland Saturday.

Burns dominated virtually all of the rounds tonight. In the end, the score cards verified the same. Burns won by unanimous decision. The judges gave it a nine, ten, and six point spread respectively (119-110, 120-110, 117-111).

Dan Rafael said tonight that Burns earned a “very solid win”. He added that the crowded was behind Burns. He “outclassed a good pro in Moses and had a great crowd behind him.” Before the decision, Rafael noted that Burns’ ended the twelve rounds with a commanding showing. “Burns should win a very wide decision. Totally outclassed Moses.”

Burns is one four main event boxing matches tonight. Miguel Diaz vs. Austreberto Juarez is a ten round boxing match held tonight in Corona California. Then in Michigan, Andy Lee vs. Saul Duran will battle in a ten round fight. Finally up next is Salido vs. Lopez 2. Orlando Salido will battle Juan Manuel Lopez in a twelve round rematch for Salido’s WBO featherweight title: start time for undercard fights is moments away on the Showtime channel.

And what could fans expect this summer? Rafael thinks Burns vs. Mitchell is possible. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Burns vs. Kevin Mitchell this summer.”

Josie Harris Photos and Abuse Evidence Send Floyd Mayweather to Jail

Josie Harris Photos and Abuse Evidence Send Floyd Mayweather to Jail

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Photos of Josie Harris’ domestic violence abuse by Floyd Mayweather, and details of his threats against Harris, resulted in a jail sentence for Mayweather today. Josie Harris (pictures below) asserted battery charges against Floyd Mayweather before. But today, a Las Vegas court sent the boxer to jail for ninety days. Mayweather must report by this January. For boxing fans, the news comes at a precarious time. Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have promised to ink a deal by December 31 for a May 5, 2012 bxoing fight. With today’s news, the boxers may still secure a fight, but that date certainly won’t be in May.

Josie Harris has previously accused Floyd Mayweather of battery only to retract those allegations. In December 2003, Floyd Mayweather was arrested after Josie Harris called police. At a Las Vegas nightclub, Harris claimed Floyd had beaten her. Mayweather faced felony battery charges at time. But when Harris took the stand, she retracted her allegations. “I was basically trying to fight him. I was pulling on him and punching on him, and telling him that he was wrong and shouldn’t have left me like that with those three babies,” she told the Court at the time. “I just kicked the windshield like it was the other girl’s face. That’s when he pulled me by my hands out of the car.”

This case was different. On September 9, 2010, Harris filed a “domestic violence report”. Harris suffered “minor injuries” said local police.

Josie Harris, who has three children with Mayweather, called Vegas police to her home in the 800 block of Tropical Vine Street. The alleged incident resulted in Harris going to Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center just after 3 am local time. Lt. Rob Lundquist, who oversees the Domestic Violence Detail, told news at the time “Right now there’s allegations of domestic violence and we’re currently investigating that.”

Harris later gave a statement to police. The first encounter was roughly 2 am. She wrote “The first time he arrived I was not there but he let himself in and began searching through my belongings. He began raising his voice telling me I’m not sh–t and he will have “me and my guy friend taken care of”. I called the police and they came and escorted him out.”

She claims that, after Mayweather left with the police, Floyd returned to her residence. “Not too longer after the police left, [Mayweather] knocked on my son’s bedroom/bathroom door to be let in and my son did. At this time I did not know he was in the house standing over as I slept on the couch.” She added “He awoke me by pulling me by my hair and throwing me on the ground in my living room and began punching me in my head digging me on the floor and thrusting my arm back in an attempt to try and break it.”

Harris claims she had to tell their children to run for safety and Floyd chased them down. “My kids heard me screaming and yelling for help as I screamed to tell them to call 911 or run out the house to the security gate to get help. He yelled fiercely at the children as he continued to beat me in front of them that if they ran or tried to call the police he would beat them the same way. I kept yelling and crying to please run run run out and get help.”

Mayweather must surrender by January 6, 2012. He will get three days credit for time served.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2012 Fight – Josie Harris Matter Won’t Sideline Efforts

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2012 Fight - Josie Harris Matter Won't Sideline Efforts

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2012 fight, a deal expected to be inked by December 31, won’t be sidelined by the Josie Harris matter today. A Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao May 5, 2012 fight is expected to be consumated by December 31, 2011, with most sides anxiously negotiating daily, Bob Arum tells news this month. Today, however, Floyd Mayweather returned to Court in the Josie Harris matter. In fall 2010, Josie Harris (photos below) claimed Floyd Mayweather threatened to kill her after he alleged stole items from her home. Josie Harris’ allegations against Mayweather date back to 2003.

Harris told police in 2010 “A week and a half ago Floyd showed up to my house unannounced making threats about doing bodily harm to me and so I called the police. He left by the time they arrived. They told me to call the police again if he shows up unannounced and not welcomed doing things to make me feel uncomfortable.” Harris said Mayweather allegedly started attacking her as she slept. “He awoke me by pulling me by my hair and throwing me on the ground in my living room and began punching me in my head digging me on the floor and thrusting my arm back in an attempt to try and break it.”

Mayweather is current in a Las Vegas court as of 11:30 AM PST. He is expected to plead guilty to single misdemeanor domestic violence charge. He was originally charged with a felony.

In 2003, Deputy District Attorney Alexandra Chrysanthis asked Harris if Mayweather had “laid a hand on her” during a 2003 alleged incident. “No, not at all… [He's] a teddy bear… I know that no matter what I did that he would never put his hands on me.” Initially in 2003 Harris claimed Floyd had beaten her. Mayweather faced felony battery charges. Harris later retracted her testimony.

UPDATE – Mayweather has been sentenced to ninety days in jail with three days credit for time served. He must surrender by January 6, 2012. As a result, a May 5, 2012 fight date seems highly unlikely even if a deal is inked later this month.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 Fight Deal Expected by December 31

Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 Fight Deal Expected by December 31

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Consummating a Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 fight remains the boxing world’s main focus, Bob Arum told news this weekend. The Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 fight has been under fire for weeks with skeptics calling such talks as simply vacant promises for a fight that allegedly will never happen. Throughout the last two years, boxing critics have accused both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao of pursuing other boxing deals while not consummating the fight that boxing fans truly want. And despite Arum’s assurances that a fight deal is being pushed for finalization before December 31, Arum failed to silence critics this weekend.

Arum says, that despite criticism, his camp’s primary and sole focus is consummating a Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 fight. After months, and arguably years, of Arum, Pacquiao and Mayweather chatting about a deal that never formulated, Arum told the Las Vegas Review Journal that this time his camp has one sole focus. But critics won’t be pleased. Arum also told news that his camp has backup plans ready to go as well, and that Arum will pursue those deals swiftly as well.

As to Floyd and Manny fighting, Arum said “That’s the priority.” Arum added “We’re working on trying to make that a reality. But you have to understand that this isn’t the kind of fight you make in 15 minutes. It doesn’t work that way. It takes time, and my obligation is to get Manny the best deal possible.”

But while Arum assured news his focus is the deal with Floyd, Arum also said he has other backup fights ready to go. “If it’s with Mayweather, great… If it’s not Mayweather, there’s another fight with (Juan Manuel) Marquez. (Miguel) Cotto would like a rematch with Manny. Tim Bradley would like to fight him. Maybe Brandon (Rios).”

What is the deadline for consummating a Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2012 fight? Arum has yet to detail that extensively to news. But he has said the two camps want the deal done by December 31. He also believes that deal will get done by that date. And if it isn’t finalized by New Year’s, will the fight be ostensibly dead? Arum doesn’t have an answer. “Hopefully, we’ll be able before the new year to bridge that gap and make that fight happen.”
