A Freedom of Information Act request upon Long had asked for Petrino’s firing letter and Dorrell’s hiring letter. In the first letter, Long reveals even more details about the Petrino Dorrell affair than previously detailed by Arkansas officials.

Dorrell was hired by Bobby Petrino on March 23. In her new Petrino position, Dorrell was to paid for $55,735 a year. But Petrino is accused of fast tracking Dorrell through the hiring process. Long told news that Petrino’s hiring process was suspiciously short and that Petrino pushed for Dorrell’s selection. After Dorrell was hired on March 23, however, the former Arkansas coach wasn’t content. He gave her a twenty-thousand dollar gift.

Long’s termination letter to Petrino released midday today clams that Dorrell took that $20,000 gift from Petrino and went and bought a black Acura. Long claims that Dorrell bought the Acura in just her first week on the job.

Earlier this week, when Long fired Petrino, Long declined to comment to news about Dorrell’s status. But on Friday, Long confirmed that Dorrell is now on paid administrative leave. The announcement was confirmed by Arkansas officials early Friday.

Long in his termination letter also claims that Dorrell and Petrino had an affair and that it carried on for months. Long said the two “engaged in an extra-marital affair” for several months, prior to her March hiring. Phone records released yesterday indicate the two would repeatedly communicate via text, text photos, and phone calls starting in September 2011.

Dorrell’s alleged wedding date, however, is still set for June 2012. She is allegedly still engaged to he is engaged to Josh Morgan, a swimming coach at the university. Bobby Petrino’s wife, Becky Petrino, has yet to comment to news about the matter. It remains unclear when Becky Petrino learned of the matter. But ASP details from Monday suggested that Becky Petrino did not know her husband was on the bike ride with Dorrell until after the crash.

Dorrell has neither spoken to the news nor appeared in public since the scandal erupted. An alleged friend told news earlier this week that “Everyone has made mistakes …but not everyone has their dirty laundry shown on national television.”

Long would not detail to news if his office is still investigating the Dorrell matter. But Long’s March 20 hiring letter for Dorrell was also released to news today.

In the hiring letter, Long told Dorrell that she must comply with Arkansas “conflict of interest policies”. But Long on Tuesday said that Dorrell and Petrino breached that conflict, by not disclosing their relationship prior to her hiring. Long fumed on Tuesday that at no time during that application process did Bobby Petrino tell his school of the conflict of interest in hiring his mistress for a new position with him.

Jessica Dorrell’s Arkansas interview was on March 12. Her background check was the following day. Petrino actively took the initiative to get Dorrell hired, the documents reveal to news. Dorrell came as a former Razorback Foundation assistant director for women’s athletics. Petrino at no time disclosed that Dorrell was at that point his alleged mistress. But he urged the university to hire her, stating of his alleged mistress that Dorrell “would be the best fit for the position.”

Petrino further solidified Dorrell’s hiring by claiming that other applicants were less qualified. He said the other two candidates did not have “as much experience as other candidates for this particular position.”

Dorrell passed her background check on March 20. She was offered the job that day and began work on March 23, the documents indicate to news. On March 28, Dorrell’s hiring was announced to news in a glowing press statement by Petrino. On April 1, the two crashed on his bike shortly after 6:30 pm on an Arkansans highway.

Petrino, at some time after the hiring but before the wreck, gave Dorrell twenty-thousand dollars. He claims it was a gift. But officials were irate during their investigation that Petrino didn’t disclose this payment either, calling it part of his “inappropriate relationship” with Dorrell and his conflict of interest.

After the Bobby Petrino wreck of April 1, officials began to then learn of these suspect hiring moves by Petrino. On April 4, he was put on administrative leave.

Today, new text massages from Petrino’s cellphone to Arkansas officials were released to news. These texts are between April 4 and his firing on April 11. Many of the messages were between Petrino and athletic director Jeff Long.

On April 6, officials asked Petrino again if he had told them everything about the wreck. Petrino wrote “Yes I believe he does. Is the mood to fire me or to keep me”. Assistant athletic director Chris Wyrick told Petrino that the university was likely to treat the scandal as a “mulligan”. “You have done the job and most feel like you are due a mulligan.”

Officials confirm to news that the Jessica Dorrell and Bobby Petrino communications span seven months, with three hundred phone calls and over four thousand text messages. The phone records released between Petrino and Dorrell, a former Razorbacks volleyball player, amounted to three hundred pages.

Petrino’s wrongdoing, according to Arkansas, began at minimum when he hired Jessica Dorrell to work for him. Officials told news that Dorrell and Petrino already had an improper relationship going on when Dorrell was hired by Petrino for a position with Petrino. The application process was shorter than usual, officials told news. And at no time during that application process did Bobby Petrino tell his school of the conflict of interest in hiring his mistress for a new position with him.

The second issue with Arkansas officials was a check. Petrino issued to Dorrell a twenty-thousands dollar check recently. While the money came from Petrino funds, Arkansas officials said that Petrino never disclosed that exchange of money between the two individuals.

And the other major issue Arkansas officials had was Petrino’s misrepresentation of his wreck. Petrino and Dorrell went for a bike ride in the evening of April 1, days after Dorrell was hired by Petrino. For reasons still unknown, Petrino crashed the bike.

When Petrino and Dorrell emerged from the ditch, Petrino was badly injured and bloody. Larry Hendren saw the two and offered help, calling 911. The two declined help. Hendren claims the two got out of the crash screen in less than five minutes.

Trooper details released to news on Monday reveal that Petrino and Dorrell then switched cars at another location. During that switch, Dorrell headed on her own way, leaving Petrino in the care of a ASP officer. That officer exchanged information with Dorrell. The officer than took Petrino to a local emergency room.

But en route to the hospital, Bobby Petrino’s wife Becky Petrino called her husband. It remains unclear if she at point knew where her husband was, or what had happened. Soon she was told her husband was in a wreck, and she informed ASP that she would accept custody of the wrecked bike last used with his mistress.

Between Sunday and Tuesday, Bobby Petrino lied to Arkansas officials. He told them that he was alone on the bike. He told them he emerged from the ditch alone. He told them no one else was on the bike. Not only Dorrell’s details were fabricated by Petrino, but details about how he got out of the crash were untrue.

Arkansas, however, didn’t know that. It issued a news statement based upon Petrino’s lies that was false. It then held a news conference after Petrino was discharged in which Petrino continued to lie about what had happened.

After Bobby Petrino wrecked his bike, Becky called him. Bobby Petrino at the time was injured, en route to a local hospital. An ASP report reveals that, only then, Bobby Petrino revealed to his wife that he been involved in a crash. Later that evening, Becky Petrino told ASP that it could transport her husband’s crashed bike to her garage. It remains unknown when Becky Petrino learned about Dorrell.

Athletic director Jeff Long, in firing Bobby Petrino yesterday, got choked up when he told news about one facet of the investigation. Long said it was difficult telling Petrino’s players that their coach had been fired.

When Long announced that Petrino was fired last night, he would not comment about Dorrell’s status with Arkansas. Her own relationship status with Morgan remained in question. ESPN last night used the expression that Dorrell was “at one point” engaged to Morgan.

Long told news that the manner in which Petrino hired Dorrell was suspect. Dorrell, on March 28, was hired as Student Athlete Development Coordinator. “Jessica Dorrell will be a great addition to our football program,” Petrino said in a news statement at the time. “As a former student-athlete she has an enthusiasm for the Razorbacks and is familiar with what the University of Arkansas can offer.”

But Long found many problems with the Dorrell hiring. First, Long claims that Petrino’s hiring process was conducted shorter than usual. Dorrell was one of three finalists of one hundred fifty-nine applicants. Second, Long said that Petrino and Dorrell were fully involved in an relationship at the time. Long said Petrino simply hired Dorrell so that it “benefited himself”. But Long said it ultimately “jeopardized the integrity of the football program.”

Finally, Long said that Petrino should have disclosed the conflict of interest in interviewing Dorrell, a former Razorback Foundation Assistant Director, but never did so. Days after that hiring, the Petrino and Dorrell were ready to hit the road for a Sunday bike right at night.

Long then said that the web of deception by Petrino reflected poorly on the university and the program. Petrino was owed $3.53 million on his annual contract this year. But because Petrino’s actions amounted to contact breaches, Long said he was able to fire Petrino for cause, preventing any payment of the university to Petrino of his annual $3 million salary and his $18 million buyout provision.

Petrino’s false statements to Long and Arkansas resulted in both parties issuing false statements to news media from Sunday to Tuesday. Long blamed Petrino’s lies for causing Arkansas to issue this false statement after the April 1 crash. “Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals.”

After being discharged from the hospital, Petrino continued to lie to national news. He claimed he emerged from a ditch alone and there was someone there to help him. Nothing could be further from the truth. “When I came out of a ditch, there was a lady there that had flagged down a car. And the guy that was in the passenger seat said get in we’ll just take you right to the hospital.”

Rather, witness Larry Hendren told 911 dispatch that the Petrino reemerged from the ditch with Dorrell. Petrino was “walking, but it looked like his face was bleeding quite a lot.” After they “were getting out of the ditch”, they got out of the crash scene promptly as well. The two left in a private car, in no less than five minutes, declining 911 assistance.

The Petrino Dorrell affair didn’t start on April 1 the day of the Bobby Petrino wreck. Nor did it start on March 28, the day Petrino hired Dorrell. Long claims it had been going on for a “significant” amount of time. Petrino even paid Dorrell $20,000 and never disclosed the payment to the university. The funds came from Petrino, not Arkansas accounts.

Athletic director Jeff Long fired Bobby Petrino Monday night, with cause, preventing any payment of the university to Petrino of his $18 million buyout provision. Despite erroneous reports surfacing late yesterday, Arkansas confirmed it made no attempt to keep Petrino as their coach on Monday.

Long said that Petrino set up a web of deception against his University. He claims that web started at least on March 28. That day, Petrino hired Dorrell as his Student-Athlete Development Coordinator. Dorrell’s new job would align her with Petrino’s recruiting process and assist with player eligibility upon arrival on campus.

But Long claimed to news last night, that when hired, Dorrell, a former Arkansas all-SEC volleyball player, was allegedly already Bobby Petrino’s mistress. Long was irate that Petrino never disclosed the conflict of interest in hiring Dorrell, a former Razorback Foundation Assistant Director, as his employee on March 28. Long said the hiring process was suspect also. He said that Dorrell was one of three finalists of one hundred fifty-nine applicants; Long also said that Petrino’s hiring process was conducted shorter than normal.

Long told news about that March 28 hiring that “Coach Petrino abused his authority when over the past few weeks he made a staff decision and personal choices that benefited himself and jeopardized the integrity of the football program.”

At the time of the hiring, Dorrell and Petrino were already involved personally, claimed Long. That action triggered review of Petrino’s contract provision. Under his roughly $3.53 million per year contract, Bobby Petrino could be fired by Arkansas for any conduct that “negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the (university’s) athletics programs in any way.”

Petrino’s conduct didn’t stop there. At some moment, Petrino not only carried on an inappropriate relationship with Dorrell for a “significant” amount of time, put even paid her $20,000 and never disclosed the payment to the university. The funds came from Petrino, not Arkansas accounts, Long confirmed. But the payment was never disclosed and the nature of the payment was deemed an inappropriate “gift”, Long told news last night.

After the March 28 Petrino hiring of Dorrell came the April 1 Petrino riding with Dorrell. After that crash, the two took efforts not be to seen together. Witness Larry Hendren saw the crash and offered to call 911. But the two declined. The cause of the crash to this day remains unknown.

Then Dorrell and Petrino left the crash scene in less than five minutes. They headed to a Fayetteville location whether they switched cars, sending Dorrell on her way alone while Petrino heading to the emergency room.

Petrino’s wife had called him. While en route to the hospital, Bobby Petrino received a phone call from his wife Becky Petrino. He had left his wife at roughly 6:30 pm that night to go on the bike ride. “He told me that it was Becky (Mrs. Petrino) calling” said Captain Lance King of the Arkansas State Police who took the coach to the hospital.

Between that Sunday and roughly Tuesday, Petrino didn’t tell Long that Dorrell was a passenger on the bike. So Long and Arkansas officials issued news statements that were erroneous stating Petrino was the only person involved with the crash. On Thursday, the scandal erupted after the ASP police report was issued. The report listed a passenger: Jessica Dorrell.

Petrino in the hospital, and after discharge, held press conferences, continuing to mislead the public. Petrino repeatedly told news that he was alone on the bike. By the end of last week, Long had enough, putting Petrino on administrative leave.

On Monday, King issued an elongated statement featuring Trooper details of the night. Finally by Monday evening, Arkansas confirmed that Bobby Petrino was fired, with cause.

“He made the decision, a conscious decision, to mislead the public on Tuesday, and in doing so negatively and adversely affected the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our football program,” Long said. “In short, coach Petrino engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff, both before and after the motorcycle accident.” Long became emotional at one point in describing the difficulty of telling students that their own coach had been fired.

Bobby Petrino issued an apology last night, to his university and his family. “The simplest response I have is: I’m sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart. All I have been able to think about is the number of people I’ve let down by making selfish decisions. I’ve taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself.” He added “I chose to engage in an improper relationship. I also made several poor decisions following the end of that relationship and in the aftermath of the accident. I accept full responsibility for what has happened.”

And what happened to Dorrell? Jessica Dorrell has not spoken since the scandal erupted. She didn’t go to the hospital with Petrino after his crash. Long refused to comment about Dorrell’s job status. Long was engaged to Josh Morgan, the athletic department’s director of swimming and diving operations when the scandal erupted.
