DL Hughley Bernie Mac Funeral!

Posted on August 15th, 2008 in DL Hughley, Bernie Mac by lalate

DL Hughley Bernie Mac

Tonight we know that DL Hughley will speak at Bernie Mac’s funeral tomorrow, Saturday morning. DL Hughley, one of the Kings of Comedy, is expected to be amazing for Mac during the memorial service.

Hughley is already started show the great flavor that the memorial will deliver, warmth, sadness, and laughter, to capture the wonderful man Bernie Mac was for all of us.

“I hate funerals. I don’t like going to church. I feel like Bernie kind of punk’d me on this one,” said Hughley at the Tempe Improv comedy club in Arizona tonight.

Hughley then sadly said: “I thought, like we all do, that things would get better and I’d get around and get to talk to him. But I didn’t, and I didn’t get to tell him how much I loved him.”

LALATE NEWS will have complete coverage of the Bernie Mac funeral Saturday.

Rhonda McCullough on Bernie Mac

Posted on August 15th, 2008 in Rhonda McCullough, Bernie Mac by lalate

Rhonda McCullough

Rhonda McCullough reveals today the final moments before the death of her husband Bernie Mac. Rhonda McCullough and Bernie Mac were married since 1977 but that all changed when he tragically approached death after being admitted to a Chicago hospital last month.

Rhonda reveals when Bernie was first admitted she thought he would be better and be out in a week. But when he did not improve after the first few days, she said she knew what was now in God’s hands. “He didn’t look good to me and I knew this could be it,” she tells People.

Rhonda remembes the sad last moments between her and Bernie:

“I said, ‘Hey Bernard. How are you?’ and I kissed his forehead. He shrugged his shoulders, like ‘I’m tired’ and I said, ‘I know you’re tired.’ Later on that night, it took a turn for the worse.”

Eventually, after the arrival of their daughter Je’Niece, 30, the two received the news in a waiting room “[The doctor] came in and I said, ‘He’s gone, isn’t he?’ and she said ‘yes,’ “.

Their marriage was all high school love that lasted a lifetime. She was a 16-year-old junior and he was a 17-year-old senior, both at Chicago Vocational High School.

Even then, Bernie had game, in a funny way.

“He said, ‘You never seen a black man as pretty as me.’ And I said, ‘No, I sure haven’t.’ And he said, ‘Girl, you know I’m so beautiful,’” she reportedly.

On a personal note, it’s hard for LALATE to write this story. Very hard. You know, Bernie Mac is not the first person that LALATE has written about sadly passing. But in our first year of reporting at LALATE, Bernie’s death is the hardest to write about. And your reaction has been the same.

It’s not right that he is gone. But God does what he has to do. Often it makes no sense. But in death, Bernie has brought us all together. This weekend, that will shown as a massive number of people are expected to show up for his memorial that will be covered here on LALATE.

LALATE has been reading you messages to Bernie and his family. They show how he touched so many of us in different ways. But more importantly, it shows how in a country that often seeks to divide people Bernie brought people together, in life, love, humor, and brilliance.

On a side note, LALATE has read those comments of readers who are located close to the memorial but don’t have means of transportation to get to the memorial. Please use your local news stations in Chicago and simply call them up and see if there is means to coordinate transportation to the event.

Bernie Mac FUNERAL

Bernie Mac FUNERAL

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS - LALATE has the funeral arrangements for Bernie Mac that you can attend. The funeral will be Saturday, August 16th. The location of the Bernie Mac Funeral is the House of Hope church at 752 E. 114th St.. The venue holds 10,000 people.

Some of the details of how Bernie died are now coming out - but honestly, they are too sad to post. Here are what some celebrities are saying about Bernie Mac • Samuel L. Jackson “It goes without saying that Bernie was one of the preeminent comedians of our generation. He was also an attentive husband, a great father and loving grandfather. I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac, and I’m honored to have finally co-starred with him in what I consider to be his finest cinematic acting achievement. My sincere prayer is that his family will be comforted by the warmth of love from all of us who knew and respected this man.”

• George Clooney: “The world just got a little less funny. He will be missed dearly.”

• Brad Pitt: “I lament the loss of a ferociously funny and hardcore family man. My thoughts are with Rhonda and their family. Bernie Mac, you are already missed.”

• Chris Rock: “Bernie Mac was one of the best and funniest comedians to ever live, but that was the second best thing he did. Bernie was one of the greatest friends a person could have. Losing him is like losing 12 people because he absolutely filled up any room he was in. I’m gonna miss the Mac Man.”

• Cedric the Entertainer: “It’s hard to put into words just how I feel and what a painful loss this is. Bernie was a brother, a friend and one of the comic masters of our time. Sharing the marquee with him during the phenomenon of the Kings of Comedy tour bonded us like family, and created a unique moment in comic history marking some of the most meaningful, memorable and fun times of our lives. His comedic approach was his own brand and will definitely stand the test of time. The level of his talent always inspired me and other comedians to ‘bring their A-game.’ I promise you that you never wanted to be the guy who had to follow Bernie’s set! As a husband and father, he was THE MAN and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will truly be missed, but so well remembered.”

And the great Carl Reiner:

• Carl Reiner: “It’s a tremendous loss because of his age and the fact that he was such a vital, original human being. When I use the word ‘original’ I really mean it. He was like no other person I knew. He lived his life to the fullest, even when we were on the set of Ocean’s. He had his own little apartment and he cooked and invited people to lunch every day and he had food that was for everybody. He made very exotic things. His conversations were always different than any conversations I had with anyone else. They were very family-oriented; he talked about his wife and children with such love and it’s very hard to believe that he’s not with us anymore.”

LALATE will have complete coverage of the Bernie Mac Funeral for you.

Steve Harvey Bernie Mac Tribute!

Posted on August 11th, 2008 in Cedric the Entertainer, DL Hughley, Kings of Comedy Tour, Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey by lalate

Steve Harvey Bernie Mac

Steve Harvey’s Morning Show did a tribute today to the great Bernie Mac. Mac and Harvey were part of the Kings of Comedy Tour along with DL Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer. Steve Harvey’s Morning Show tribute follows a tearful audio interview by Steve with CNN News this weekend.

Mac and Harvey toured with the Kings for 4 years. They were planning a 10-year major tour deal but Mac’s health wasn’t good enough for it.

“I am just numb,” Harvey said to CNN “B Mac killed every night. Every night! He would close the show. He was the go-to guy. At the end, he’d take off his handkerchief, wipe the sweat off his brow, throw it in the audience and open his arms wide open. That is the image I’ll always remember.”

LALATE has a simple question - why does God always take our greatest people from us?

Steve Harvey hasn’t posted the audio from the Steve Harvey Morning Show yet on his website (8 am PST). But it should be up within a few hours - click here for that (under the Best of Steve Harvey).

Below is the CNN interview tribute of Steve Harvey on our greatly missed Bernie Mac.

Bernie Mac DEAD Sarcoidosis not Cause

Posted on August 9th, 2008 in Bernie Mac by lalate

Bernie Mac DEAD

Bernie Mac, Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, is Dead. Bernie Mac died Saturday. He was 50 years old. Sarcoidosis did not lead to his death.

The actor suffered from sarcoidosis, but it was not the cause of his death, having been in remission since 2005.

“Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” his publicist, Danica Smith said in an issued statement about his death.

Smith had recently said sarcoidosis was not related to his hospitalization. Sarcoidosis produces inflammatory lung problems that attack the lungs, lymph nodes and other organs.

Mac was one of LALATE’s most loved comedians. He was in Transformers, Old Dogs, Starting Over, and many others.

Mac (Bernard Jeffrey McCullough) grew up Chicago’s South Side. He was greatly loved for that incredible performance in Oceans 11.

LALATE is greatly sadden by his death.

Bernie Mac Not Dead!

Posted on August 2nd, 2008 in Bernie Mac by lalate

Bernie Mac

Bernie Mac is not dead. Bernie Mac dead rumors got so bad that Mac’s publicist had to respond to the dead reports Friday. Mac is hospitalized in Chicago for pneumonia.

Chicago news is reporting Bernie Mac “prank phone calls… into newsrooms and radio stations alleging the “King of Comedy” has died” are widespread.

Mac’s publicist had to reportedly respond to all the allegations of Mac’s death saying “absolutely untrue.”

Mac currently lives in suburbs of Chicago’s south side. Mac’s publicist Danica Smith said late yesterday “It is a very horrible rumor. It is absolutely untrue. Nothing has changed from yesterday.”

Smith also explained the pneumonia is no connected with Mac’s condition of “sarcoidosis” that can affect your lungs, also widely reportedly incorrectly online this weekend. Smith explained Mac’s sarcoidosis is in remission since ‘05.

Bernie Mac Obama

Posted on July 12th, 2008 in Bernie Mac, Barack Obama by lalate

Bernie Mac

Comedian Bernie Mac was not funny to Barack Obama supporters at a fundraiser Friday night. In fact, Obama attendees shouted for him to leave the stage after inappropriate conduct.

The comedian’s jokes were about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and more.

“My little nephew came to me and he said, ‘Uncle, what’s the difference between a hypothetical question and a realistic question?’” Mac said. “I said, I don’t know, but I said, ‘Go upstairs and ask your mother if she’d make love to the mailman for $50,000.’”

At this point, attendees reportedly tried to get him off the stage.

Later Obama tried to laugh it all off.

“We can’t afford to be divided by race. We can’t afford to be divided by region or by class and we can’t afford to be divided by gender, which by the way, that means, Bernie, you’ve got to clean up your act next time. This is a family affair. By the way, I’m just messing with you, man.”

“Sen. Obama told Bernie Mac that he doesn’t condone these statements and believes what was said was inappropriate,” said Obama’s spokeswoman afterwardds.
