Anthony Wayne Smith, Raiders Former Player, Battles New Charges

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Anthony Wayne Smith, a former Oakland Raiders star, is an alleged serial killer, claim prosecutors. Anthony Wayne Smith is now charged with four killings, his attorney confirms to news. But Smith calls all the charges untrue.

Anthony Wayne Smith was a defensive lineman with the Oakland Raiders. He was accused initially with the 2009 dead of Maurilio Ponce. Recently, prosecutors failed to get a conviction of Smith on the Ponce case. But after that trial, prosecutors told news that they, not only were going to re-prosecute the case, but also charged Smith with three other murder cases: Rickey Nettles, Kevin Nettles, and Dennis Henderson.

In 2008, Lancaster mechanic Maurilio Ponce was found dead. Prosecutors believed Smith was to blame for the death. But a first jury did not agree, deciding not to convict Smith.

In 1999, brothers Rickey Nettles and Kevin Nettles were killed in a double homicide. And in 2001, Dennis Henderson was found dead by investigators. Now LAPD has charged Smith, not just with the three additional deaths, but also other charges.

Cold Case detectives would not tell news what prompted their recent discovery. But LAPD confirms they have now charged Smith with homicide, kidnapping, robbery and special circumstances enhancements of torture and multiple murders in three deaths.

Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, tells news that Smith was neighbor’s with Henderson’s brother in Marina Del Rey at the time.

Henderson and Terry Ware in June 2001 were kidnapped by multiple men. Henderson and Ware were then separated and sent off in different cars. Henderson’s body was then discovered after he had been allegedly tortured and robbed. Ponce himself was allegedly beaten and then shot six times. And the Nettles brothers were alleged tortured and shot as well.

Smith has denied any wrongdoing.

Anthony Wayne Smith Charged with Murder

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Anthony Wayne Smith, former Oakland Raiders player (mug shot photo above), has been charged with murder, again. Anthony Wayne Smith was charged with murder in the 2008 death of Maurilo Ponce. But after that case ended in a hung jury, Smith expected a retrial on just the Ponce case.

This week, however, Anthony Wayne Smith was charged, not just with Ponce’s death, but also the alleged 1999 murder of Kevin and Ricky Nettles and the alleged 2001 murder of Dennis Henderson. Officials have yet to tell news what prompted their recent decisions.

In April, Smith’s Ponce trial ended in a hung jury. Ponce, 31, was a resident of Lancaster when he was found dead in 2008. Just days ago, jury selection was about to commence for the retrial in the Ponce case.

But now police claim that Smith was involved in the kidnapping of the Nettles from a Los Angeles car wash in 1999 and the kidnapping and shooting of Henderson two years later.

Smith’s lawyer, Michael Evans, says his client is not guilty and is surprised by the new charges. Smith played with the Raiders for seven seasons.
