LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Allen Iverson is going to play for Besiktas in Turkey, says Seref Yalcin. Allen Iverson will sign a Turkish basketball contract for one year with a one year option with Besiktas, says reps for the team Monday.
Besiktas’ rep Yalcin tells Turkish news organization DHA that the former 76ers will fly to Istanbul next week, meet with Besiktas team officials, and sign a deal that has allegedly been agreed to already. The terms of the contract are one year for $1.5 million with a $300,000 signing bonus after passing medical testing in Istanbul. The contract will have a one year option. Besiktas has yet to confirm the salary level under the optional second year.
Besiktas’ reps including executive board member Seref Yalcin
will meet with Iverson at his home on Friday in the U.S.; Iverson will reportedly travel to Besiktas’ offices in Istanbul in 10 days.
After Allen Iverson signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, he tweeted in 2009 “God Chose Memphis as the place that I will continue my career.” He added the following about Memphis “I feel that they are committed to developing a winner and I know that I can help them to accomplish that. I feel that I can trust them. Memphis is a place that I would love to play. The Grizzlies have good young players with a great upside. I love the city of Memphis, too. I would lead by example”.
Iverson later left the team and resigned with Philly.
