All Star Game Broadcast

Posted on July 14th, 2008 in All-Star Game by lalate

All Star Game

BROADCAST TV: The All-Star Game will aire this week and LALATE will have all the celebrity party coverage, the game, and more. The question, however, is whether the Broadcast’s ratings will be a bomb.

One magazine this morning is claiming the All-Star Game Broadcast will pull the lowest ratings in nearly 30 years.

Claims the Hollywood Reporter “When the American and National League face off in Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game in New York, there will be fewer people watching than there were the last time Yankee Stadium was the host in 1977. Last year’s game drew 12.5 million viewers, the smallest audience for the “Midsummer Classic” since at least 1970.”

The report claims ratings have fallen since 2001.

Why? The All-Star Game has reportedly has lost its cache, and has more summer TV competition. Normally summertime meant TV reruns. Now its new episodes of premiering reality tv shows.

But with a return to Yankee Stadium, the Bon Jovi concer, and more, Fox (a reality TV dominating network, ironically) and MLB are hoping to change the downward trend.

Fox Sports president Ed Goren says “The viewership for this All-Star Game is going to be sensational”.

And if you love math, how about this one. Last year, ratings were the lowest in 30 years. But this year, ad rates have a double digit increase, from just last year!

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, and Bon Jovi are among those music celebrities participating in the huge All-Star game celebration that starts this weekend in New York and leads up to the game on Tuesday.

First on Saturday, our New York readers can enjoy an incredible concert in Central Park from Bon Jovi.

On Monday, 3 Doors Down will perform before the home run derby.

Then during the game on Tuesday, Sheryl Crow will perform the national anthem. Later in the evening, Josh Groban will sing “God Bless America” at the seventh inning stretch.

Also next week, Alex Rodriguez is throwing a huge bash. And guess you has RSVP’d? Of course, Madonna. (No shame, no shame.)
