LOS ANGELES (LALATE EXCLUSIVE) – Todd Chrisley on Chrisley Knows Best tells viewers that he is launching a Chrisley & Company Department Store in Atlanta. But what does Todd Chrisley do for a living, how did Todd make his money, what is Chrisley’s net worth, and isn’t Todd Chrisley in bankruptcy? Chrisley Knows Best out of the gate is one of the most entertaining new reality shows of 2014. A strong love of parenting coupled and charismatic family has made the show a ratings winner. Last night viewers met Kyle Chrisley’s adorable daughter and were left guessing who is Angela, Kyle’s baby mama. They also watched as Savannah Chrisley and Chase Chrisley handled a fender bender.
But the show still carries an elephant in the room, namely Chrisley’s money trouble. Todd Chrisley is in bankruptcy, and he claims in court documents that his net worth is less than his existing debts. On the show, however, Todd Chrisley tells viewers that he is spending a part of his “net worth”, as he puts it, on launching a Chrisley & Company Department Store. And while the show presumably was filmed in 2013 in Atlanta, LALATE can report that Todd once claimed that he was launching Chrisley & Company Department Store three years earlier.
The exceptional entertainment value of Chrisley Knows Best carries with it a mystery value. Is this family’s lavish lifestyle set to change in season two? As the show premiere, most viewers understood that the show was filmed in Todd Chrisley’s 30,000 square foot mansion in Atlanta. That house is now up for sale. Viewers were told on the show that Todd was set to invest millions in a department store he called Chrisley & Company Department Store. But outside the show, Todd’s attorney admitted that his client is in bankruptcy. On the show, viewers were told that the department store would continue Todd’s interest in clothing. He tells viewers that he spends several hundreds of thousand dollars per year on clothing. But outside the show, viewers were told that Todd Chrisley allegedly owes hundred of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes.
With that, the show sets up what is expected to be a dramatic season conclusion or season two revelation. If the show was to shoot a second season right now, Todd Chrisley’s mansion would be up for sale, he would be embroiled in a bankruptcy fight, and his claims of spending power and massive net worth would be the subject of a bankruptcy trustee.
But how did Todd Chrisley make his money? The reality show about a strong parenting, but also about Todd’s money and his spending money, gives little exposition. His charity website carries a 2010 copyright notice in the bottom. On it, it states “As the founder of Chrisley & Company, Todd directly oversees the operations of all segments of the business. This includes Chrisley Asset Management, as well as new ventures into media and retail. Todd created the media wing of Chrisley & Company, 7C’s Productions, to express his creative and artistic vision for the world. 7C’s has several new and exciting projects on the horizon that will reflect the creative force that drives Todd every day.”
And while in the show, Todd tells viewers that he is set to Chrisley & Company Department Store, LALATE can report that this not the first attempt at the store. Todd previously told news the same several years back, namely that “In 2010, Chrisley & Company will debut the Chrisley Department Store in Atlanta, followed by locations in Nashville and Dallas. The forthcoming Chrisley retail store will reflect Todd’s distinct sense of style and taste.” A new episode of Chrisley Knows Best airs every Tuesday on USA.
