LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Earthquakes today 2014 have included strong quakes hitting Chile and the Philippines. But earlier today, light quakes hit California, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
The latest significant earthquake today March 2, 2014 was a 4.8 magnitude quake striking west of Sabtang, Philippines. Officials tell news that the quake was not close to land, however. The quake started six miles below seal level, locally March 3, 2014, and started just after 1:11 am today. The quake was roughly one hundred miles southwest of Taiwan.
Earlier today, a 5.6 magnitude terremoto struck off the west coast of Chile. The quake, similarly, was not near land. Reps tell news that the quake was roughly two hundred miles east of Puerto Chacabuco.
Domestically, Oklahoma continues to deliver roughly a handful of quakes per day. The latest struck Sunday at 10:51 am local time. Reps tell news that the quake was eight miles southwest of Cherokee. It was thirty-nine miles west of Enid and fifty-three miles east of Woodward.
Also, a 2.5 magnitude quake struck Tennessee today. It began just after 10:30 am local time and was shallow. Reps tell news that the quake was only eleven miles below ground level. It was eighty-eight miles east of Nashville and roughly eleven miles west of Pikeville.
And finally, another comparable quake struck California today. It posted a 2.9 magnitude and was shallow, only four miles below ground level. It started east of Bakersfield and roughly eleven miles north of Golden Hills. The quake was also twenty miles east of Arvin.
