ST LOUIS (LALATE) – Another Oklahoma earthquake today 2014 struck Guthrie. The Oklahoma earthquake today February 22, 2014 began just after 8 am local time today. The quake marks the latest in a series of earthquakes to strike near the same epicenter in recent days. It also follows another Oklahoma quake in Guthrie overnight.
Officials tell news that a 2.9 magnitude Oklahoma earthquake today struck just after 8:06 am local time today. The quake began only three miles below ground level. As a result its impact was felt in neighboring towns.
USGS tells news that the Oklahoma earthquake today was five miles northeast of Stillwater. It was thirty-one miles northeast of Guthrie and thrity-eight miles south of Ponca City. It started forty-four miles from Edmond and fifty-six miles from Oklahoma City.
Several quakes have been hitting Oklahoma since last year. In June one quake hit twelve miles northeast of Chickasha and fourteen miles southwest of Mustang. The quake was twenty-one miles southwest of Yukon and twenty-seven miles southwest of Oklahoma City, reps told news at the time. In January 2013 a comparable quake began five miles from Jones. The quake was six miles east of Edmond and nine miles northwest of Choctaw. USGS also told news that the quake was eleven miles north of Midwest City.
