LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – An earthquake today 2014 has struck California, specifically San Simeon. The California earthquake today February 16, 2014 began moments ago, off the coast, in central California. Damage assessment is pending.
Several earthquakes today 2-16-14 have been striking in the last few hours. There was a 4.7 magnitude New Zealand quake near Wanaka. A 4.6 magnitude Guatemala quake hit hear Puerto San Jose. And 4.9 magnitude quake hi the Philippines centered east of Sarangani along with a series of quakes in Alaska.
But at 8:31 am PST, a 3.3 magnitude California earthquake hit off the coast. It was only six miles below sea level. As a results the quake could be felt across the region.
USGS indicates to news that the quake was twenty-two miles north of San Simeon. It was thirty miles southwest of King City and thirty-three miles southwest of Greenfield. It started thirty-nine miles southwest of Soledad and roughly two hundred south of Sacramento.
The same general region has produced several quakes this year. In August a quake was four miles east of East Foothills. The quake was the same distance east of Alum Rock and nine miles east of San Jose. The quake was north of Morgan Hill, west of Modesto, south of Fremont, and north of Gilroy.
