LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A Los Angeles earthquake today 2014 has just struck Southern California, centered in Hollywood near Glendale. The Los Angeles earthquake struck Southern California today February 8, 2014 moments ago and followed a series of other quakes in northern California today as well.
USGS indicates to news that a 3.0 magnitude Los Angeles earthquake today began just after 10:13 am PST. The quake followed a series of stronger unrelated quakes which hit northern California today. A 3.2 magnitude quake hit Covelo, California previously. That quake was only five miles below ground level. It hit northwest of Clearlake.
Today’s Hollywood quake had a shallow depth. USGS indicates to news that the quake started only five miles below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across sections of Southern California.
USGS tells news that the quake was two miles east of Hollywood. The quake was three miles northwest of downtown LA and four mile southwest of Glendale. The quake started four miles east of West Hollywood.
Most quakes to hit Los Angeles in the last few months have been further east or further west. Many of the quakes have been centered along the coast, south toward Corona, or east towards Palm Springs. Just days ago another quake was five miles north of Bloomington and five miles west of Muscoy. It hit north of Perris and south of Adelanto. It started east of Los Angeles, west of Yucca Valley and west of Palm Springs.
