Officials tell news that a 3.3 magnitude Kansas earthquake just hit shortly after 8:17 am local time. The quake was shallow however. USGS indicates to news that the quake began only three miles below ground. As a result the quake could be felt across the vicinity.
USGS indicates to news that the Kansas earthquake today started eleven miles northwest of Caldwell. It was thirty-seven miles from Haysville. It began thirty-nine miles southwest of Derby and was forty miles west of Arkansas City. It also started roughly one hundred miles from Oklahoma City, USGS tells news.
Kansas earthquakes have been frequent in recent months. In December, another Kansas earthquake began eleven miles west of Caldwell. That quake was thirty-eight miles south of Haysville and forty miles west of Derby. The quake was forty-one miles west of Arkansas City, Kansas and roughly one hundred miles from Oklahoma City as well, news analysts noted.
In November 2011 another quake struck only three miles below the earth’s surface. Residents in neighboring states felt the quake at the time. No significant damage was reported after the quake.
