A 2.6 magnitude Los Angeles earthquake today began moments ago, LALATE can report, just after 5:26 am PST. The quake is not near the Corona and Fontana quakes this week. But is the latest in a possible dubbed “earthquake swarm” for January 2014?
This morning’s quake hit with no depth. The quake began less than a mile below ground level. As a result the quake could be felt across the densely populated neighborhood. USGS indicates to news that the Los Angeles earthquake was centered closest to Universal City. The quake was two miles from Universal, four miles north of West Hollywood, and four miles northeast of Beverly Hills. The quake was five miles north of Hollywood as well.
Los Angeles earthquakes have not been centered in this section of town for sometime. Most quakes in 2013 were centered along the coast, near Malibu to Palos Verdes. Other quakes were centered more on land near Corona and east toward Palm Springs. But quakes centered near Beverly Hills and Hollywood have been rare occurrence even for Los Angeles in the last twelve months.
